Forums - Politics Discussion - Police officer: "Tase first, ask questions later."

people have pointed at me, yelled at me and even walked aggressively towards me many a time and I never used a Taser (or any other weapon) on any of them , HOW AM I STILL ALIVE ?

Excuse me, but that is one of the most ignorant rationalizations I've ever heard in my life.  Because a criminal hasn't killed you, somehow police work is magically safer?  Because it hasn't happened to you, the police should assume that it can't happen at all?  What an absolutely silly argument.  It actually pisses me off for the sake of those who HAVE been been the victims of  assault.

Seriously, what the hell ...

it wasn't an argument, it was a joke, I've stated my arguments in other posts, thanks for not responding to those

Taser is probably a better option than guns right now. Tase first, ask whether hostile or not later!

I guess a taser is better than a gun, but this liberal use of weapons is just unacceptable to me and I don't understand why there is no outcry over this, instead I see lots of "should have known" and "had it comming" types of posts.

I've already responded to you twice before this so, uh ... yeah.

nah you responded once before and to a short one sentence post, in the mean time I had several others that better explained my points why I feel this was unjustified

Like my dad says: "If you know that cops are assholes, don't be an asshole with them"

Sound advice - considering that a lot of them are ignorant, arrogant and/or corrupt tugs with badges.

Then again, there are cops like this one:

Yeah, I responded when you responded to me.  It's not my fault if you didn't choose to "better explain" yourself by that point.

Look, you think only police should be responsible for their actions, I think everyone should be responsible for their actions.  This situation was initiated by the man getting out of his car and acting incredibly stupid.  If you don't think he has any responsibility for his actions at all, fine, but don't expect me to agree with you, and don't expect people who are in potentially dangerous situations to agree with you.  It's common sense to not rush someone who is armed.

Also, if you don't want people to respond to your dumb jokes then don't make dumb jokes.

Oh fuck that guy, he deserved it.

Who seriously thinks walking up to anybody like that is a good idea? He looked violent and got what he deserved.

I don't see anything wrong there.

Old ass man will react better to police next time around, I am guessing.

Right.

If somebody I don't know walks to me like that my gut reaction is its time to fight. That old guy just displayed a lack of common sense.

I don't think other countries' police officers have problems with using less force so I don't see why the police officers in the USA should need to use more force either.

They guy behaved inappropriately for the sitation, and then the police officer overreacted. And the thing is, it seems like he overreacted because he's basically allowed to, not because he couldn't have done it better.

huh? the intentionally ridiculous post wasn't directed at you, yet you responded to that one -> you clearly read the thread outside of direct responses, therefore I feel justified in assuming you read my other posts

I said before that the man acted outside of the guidelines he surely knew himself, yet I see no reason for the use of a weapon in the situation presented in the video. Getting tased is not "taking responsibility", apologizing and precisely complying with reasonable demands/orders after an effective de-escalation would've been.

You seem to think the risk in this case was super high, so the officer was justified in massively prioritizing personal safety instead of trying to de-escalate verbally, I have a hard time comming to the same conclusion based on the video. And if there was no massive risk (taking atleast some small risks afaik is part of the job description) I think it's the cops responsibility to aim for a best case scenario for all involved - tasing, cuffing and probably having the man to face more consequences is not best case.

And don't give me that vague "bad things happened before", ofcourse they happened before, but the chances are minimal - assuming a worst case all the time leads to bad decisions and a worse than necessary outcome in many many situations just to have a higher chance to prevent some very few worst cases.
