I think Hollywood releases plenty of original movies. I'm going to go ahead and say that it you take all of the remakes and licensed properties of any given month and put then up against original ideas (and literary adaptations) then it won't paint a clear picture. It's just that comics, sequels, and remakes generate more excitement.
