Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What you think of Crackdown's Cloud Computing?

Don't get me wrong, Crackdown 3 looks fantastic so far and the physics with the cloud is amazing but i'm not sure how great it will be in the long run. Server cost money to run and they can't run forever so I wonder what will be left of this game once the servers turn off, or if I go to my house in the country without internet? Will there possibly be 2 modes to this game? One that gives you the full experience with the cloud and the other that only uses the X1 where a few things can't be destroyed?

"so I wonder what will be left of this game once the servers turn off"
Then it wont run anymore.

"or if I go to my house in the country without internet?"
Then you cant play it anymore.

"Will there possibly be 2 modes to this game?"
Probably not.

I dont know for sure, but that is my "guess".

Well that would suck...

singleplayer could be non-destructive (or limited) and multiplayer is definitely advanced.
But there could also be an option to have full destruction for singleplayer if the console is connected to the internet. Would probably require a reload of the last save file. Don't expect buildings to stay destroyed though. That wouldn't make much sense in a sandbox type of game.

They din't say the game itself requires internet connection, only some of the multiplayer features.

But, like you I don't know, that is only MY "guess"

It is near the end of the end....

Would be cool if it was just a multiplayer feature.

I think it's great they experiment with this technology. Even if we don't know what'll happen to servers in the future I prefer them to experiment and exploit these technologies so we can see the possibilities than not doing it because some are affraid of not being able to play when/if they lose internet.

Same thing as M.A.G. or Titanfall, I guess. Thought they said it was for multiplayer, though.

I thought the destructible environments looked great. Might want to be able to just play in my own little world though - hope we can do that.

That's an amazing amount of computer power. But computer power also drops in cost every year, it's not that much in the long run. You would need Xbox Live or a shared Live to play it, and that's part of what the annual fees cover.

Since the 360 is confirmed for another 5 years, I wouldn't worry about CrackDown 3 getting turned off till at least a few more after that.
No Internet? There are many things I can't do without internet - make phone calls, emails, etc. Maybe they will have a stand alone offline local game, but who knows at this point. But even if I play alone, I would want to be blowing buildings up which uses those massive servers.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

The way they presented it made it seem as if online MP had the cloud enabled and opened up all the destruction and stuff. So SP/offline will not have it, or at least not at the same level as online.
