The reason why retail games are less expensive is because the market decides, and the market ussually drop the price very quick as they have to get rid of the stuff for new games. Digital can make unlimited amount of copies without any logistic problems

What you say is not incorrect, but it does not tell the whole story.  As the Ubisoft representative recently said, publishers intentionally reduce the price of retail copies so they sell out in stores.  Therefore, the retailers are willing to make larger orders when the next game comes out.  Digital copies should cost less than physical copies, because there is no disc, manual, box, boxart, shipping costs, and most importantly, no retailer's cut.  Publishers are giving in to retailer's demands, and it's hurting gamers.

Err.. no. The retailer cut goes instead to the digital store owner. So, thats not going away either way, except for first party games.

So, its shiping costs for physical goods. Not a bae deal when digital can be switched off at any time.

Amen brother!

I'm in the middle really, buy mostly physical but I don't mind digital every once in a while. Most of the stuff I get physical are games I know I'll replay at some point or many times. My digital purchases are usually multiplayer games since I'll invest a shit ton of hours on them, obviously purely talking about home consoles

I can't deny though, I like having the game in my colection..

Physical makes more sense.

But I still prefer digital. Easier to organize my collection. Plus I don't have to change disks all the time.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

I don't mind either. These days I'm finding digital games for cheaper prices so I'm buying more of those. But I don't mind having either.

In the case of the consoles, the digital store owner is the console manufacturer, who the publishers already pay royalties to.  Now I'm sure that they do pay for using the console's digital store, but it has to be less than console royalties + retailer's cut.  And then again we have shipping and manufacturing.

i don't understand why people are trying to decide for others. I prefer physical, some people don't. There are advantages to both, I would never buy digital but i get why some people might. People will choose for themselves which is better for them, there's nothing to argue about here.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Physical games are the best because: You can lend them to friends and family, you can sell them or trade them in, they are not tied to your console (looking at you Nintendo with digital games), they are easier to find at an discounted price.

This debate is pointless... retailers and major consoles keep artificially jacking price of Digital in order to appease retailers. The main advantage of digital should be that they are cheaper than physical. But, if overnight digital games would be $10-20 cheaper than physical games, this would kill the retail market.

All these threads wouldn't be defending physical if they cost $10-20 more than their digital counterpart has they should. Music and Movies have all gone fully digital and it's only a matter of when not if Video games will go mostly digital. It is pretty outrageous that physical games cost are on par or sometimes cheaper then Digital games. Obviously physical games offer more value if priced the same has digital.

I wouldn't pay full price for Digital games but as it stand I got a good deal on my pre-order of Witcher 3 and other good deal on deals with gold such as Forza Horizon 2 (50% off).

I buy all my movies on blu-ray, which is usually cheaper than owning them digitally.

The case to buy movies physical is even a lot stronger than games. No patches needed, better picture quality, lossless sound, multiple sound tracks, lots of extras, and you often get the digital version as a bonus. They're trying to make the digital (to buy) version more attractive now by delaying the physical version. Buy the digital version now and watch it 2 weeks before the blu-ray comes out.

For example Justice Leage Gods and Monsters, PSN HD to buy CAD 24.99 3.4GB download, Amazon.ca CAD 21.97 Blu-ray + DVD + digital HD ultraviolet.

A digital version is only worth 1/3 or a physical version to me. I have a hard time paying $20 for just a digital download. That might change though as opposed to movies, physical game editions get more and more useless thanks to major day 1 patches. Anyway as long as digital is half price or more than physical, physical is still the best way to go. Can always sell it on or trade it in for half price off the next game.

Btw movies have not gone all digital. Can't buy any digital versions of Ghibli movies for example.
