Forums - Sony Discussion - Will PS4 have a price cut this year?

What do you think will happen?

$100 price cut 30 11.19%

$50 price cut 93 34.70%

Bundles 145 54.10%

Total:268

I want to know what people think.

Seeing how PS4 was actually up YoY last quarter without a cut, what do you think Sony will do this holiday season?

$100 cut? $50? Bundles?

Would be nice but it makes no business sense. PS4s can't seem to stay on shelves.

Yes, a $50 price cut announced at Paris Games week.

Zero ...

It makes no sense to throw away good margins and the competition isn't even a threat to their bottom line either ...

No price cuts. It's outselling the entire competition (including handhelds) combined, it is obvious that people can recognize quality and are willing to pay for it.
They will of course have some holiday bundles and a few limited price promotions, but the base price will remain $/€ 400.

Nope. They don't need to do it.

I don't think a price cut is coming this year. I am starting to have a feeling the price cut will come when Project Morpheus is released. Something along the lines of, "To make it even easier to enter the virtual world, PlayStation 4 pricing will start at $299.99."

This makes the most sense at this point. They are selling PS4 like crazy right now anyways, and they will need massive momentum around the Project Morpheus launch to get people on board. What better way to get people on board than announcing a price cut along side Morpheus to make it even cheaper to be join the VR future.

Sony has so much coming this holiday that PS4 is going to sell bonkers anyways. PlayStation Vue will be marketed heavily (remember 200M+ cable boxes in the US alone). PlayStation Now is getting better every month, and is starting to spread across EU. PlayStation Music is coming to many more countires throughout the second half of 2015 starting with Costa Rica, Panama, and Ecuador.

Finally, Sony has deeply anchored itself with the biggest 3rd party IP's this holiday, Star Wars (Disney Infinity and Battlefront), Destiny, Metal Gear Solid 5, Assasins Creed, Hitman, Persona 5, Dragon Quest Heroes, Disgaea 5, and Call of Duty. They also have Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded, and The Nathan Drake Collection published in house. They will do plenty fine with bundles this holiday.

I predict they'll have two models. A 500gb for $349.99 and a 1tb for $399.99. Plus good bundles.

History is nothing more than a tableau of crimes and misfortunes

Up until 3 million Shipped for April-June I thought a $50 cut was on the cards. Now I think it will be bundles, and a $350 clearance for 500GB sku to make way for 1TB.

I agree that Sony will have to drop the price of PS4 to give Morpheus the best chance of being viable. It's such an expensive proposition to get into VR that they will need to give people a reason to buy in. Spending $100 less on the base PS4 is about as good a reason as they will be able to muster. A Morpheus bundle would have to be no more than $450 to get reasonable appeal, and it will need a game autobundled, like Kinect Adventures was autobundled with Kinect.

Why are people obsessed over speculating that Sony would do price cut? They literally have no reason to lol.
