Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX and reasonable game droughts

It is normal that after launch titles a console will face a period of time before a second wave of videogames comes forth.

WiiU had a game drought after the release of it's launch games that lasted months and that was felt by some Nintendo fans.

How long of a period would you consider reasonable by Nintendo to produce a next wave of games after the NX launch?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Not only did the wii u have a limited amount of software but much of it was of ports that weren't really sutiable for the wii u specification and performed poorly. I'm not sure what is worse lack of games or games that were inferior to versions of the same games on outdated consoles but the whole situation was very damaging for Nintendo.

Still don't know what the NX is or how powerful it will be but mainstream development nowadays is on x86 architecture and any other processor type will hinder third party development as will a poor product or poor price point.

Development for the ps3 and 360 seems to dying quickly so there aren't going to be powerpc ports from those formats to NX if the NX is PPC based.

If the NX is arm based and will be getting enhanced ports of android and ios games then I think the NX will flop badly. Just can't see such a product doing well.

NX needs to be reasonably powerful and x86 based I feel to have a fighting chance.

Nintendo should at this stage have a good relationship with both indies and third partys, so they should keep the drought a bay and if they dont have indies and third partys on board they'll have a drought and be the Wii U all over again

There shouldn't be a drought on the NX if Nintendo actually manages to keep third party support.

Droughts should happen, period.

Hopefully, Nintendo realizes how important third parties are, and try to do their best to get good relations.

Every Nintendo console since the N64 has had software droughts early and often in its lifespan.

For the N64, at least there was the excuse that working within the limitations of cartridges and transitioning from 2D to 3D make development difficult early on, which is why there were so few launch titles and software in general within its 1st year on the market.

But for the GC, Wii and Wii U it was inexcusable. And of course the common thread for all 4 consoles is the ever dwindling amount of software from major 3rd party studios.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

If the NX actually delivers then the drought wouldn't happen early in its life.

Absolutely no excuse for a drought this time around.
