Btw. the people that showed companies that they'd happily pay for online multiplayer (and who in some cases would even go online and defend that action) are still probably the people I have the biggest internal beef with in the gaming community.

I was paying for PS+ way before it was needed for online MP. What now?

Then you didn't get the service for online multiplayer and aren't among the people I'm talking about. If this service and Xbox Live Gold was only about the deals and the free games then I wouldn't have a problem with them. I was more talking about the people that kept praising and celebrating Xbox Live Gold in the beginning of Gen 7 anyway.

I still dislike the whole PS+ thing being mandatory, I only play handful of games and the extra games will likely just go unplayed for me, yet I still have to pay just to play Metal Gear Online only pretty much.

ps plus is already way more expensive than xbox live here in europe
street prices are 40-45 Euro for ps+, while you can get xbox live codes from keysellers from 25 to 35 Euro

must be due to the region locked ps+ codes. i hate all the playstion region lock stuff
and now ps+ should become even more expensive? no thanks

That doesn't make much sense. They want people to do yearly. Currently they save 10€ compared to 3 months by doing so. With those prices it goes down to 4€ and there's very little incentive to get a yearly sub.

Then you should have also noted that such a change in prices would only make sense to Sony if they realized that the 3 month plan is the preferred subscription plan in Europe.

Either way though, it sucks. Understandable, but it sucks none the less. To think that once upon a time PSN was an all round free service. Thank you MS.

Kinda sucks if true but not really unexpected. It's been 5 years, the price is going to go up at some point. We have to consider inflation and the fact that PS+ covers 3 systems, PSN is a lot better and we have a lot more features as the years go on.

Honestly, the whole paying to play online thing has always bugged me. I was paying for PS+ when all it did was give me free games and discounts and I was OK with that. Hell, then I would have felt stupid for not paying for it considering the amount of great free games they offered (vanquish, deus ex and infamous 2 were enough to justify yearly subscriptions).

But when they put online play behind the wall, it rubbed me the wrong way. Simply cause we are paying for something that is already free in multiple ways. we pay for our internet, the console, the game then "have" to pay to play the full game. That's just wrong. Its not a lot of money, but its still really bad form. I would understand if it meant every PS game were on dedicated servers from Sony but thats not the case.  I can understand put share play or maybe even live streaming behind a pay wall but online gaming shouldn't be.

But hey, we have MS and the fools that praised MS for XBL gold to thank for this. When Sony realizes they can get away with potentially making a billion from subscription fees alone in a year its hard to argue with their choices.

pretty sad this is because the euro lost in value but actually it doesnt make sense the servers are hosted in europe and paid in euro

the euro didnt lost in value against the yen. so this is greedy BS. why should sony care about the dollar/euro rate?

Sony is just maximizing profits and will likely use the Euro drop as an excuse.

Why not if you can get away with it? Any company would do so. Europe is Sonyland afterall.
