There are a LOT of disgustingly disappointing/terrible teams this year, lol.

Awesome teams so far imho : Patriots, Packers, Cardinals.

Good but flawed teams so far : Broncos, Falcons, Bengals, Seahawks.

And then a whole bunch of meh to bleh from there on out.

Honestly if the Superbowl isn't either Patriots vs. Packers or Patriots vs. Cardinals it will be incredible. It's not a question of other teams having off games or anything so simple, it's either a cavalcade of injuries, poor coaching, or just plain gigantic missing pieces that preclude even the faintest idea that they are capable of any real run to a SB.

I haven't seen any Bengals games so far, but the news has been pretty positive. What's their achilles heel?

Andy Dalton in the post-season.  It's basically going to be their achilles heel until they prove otherwise.  I haven't watched them either, but I've heard numerous folks simply not caring about them until they see them show up in a post-season game.

Also I think its way to early to be picking teams for the superbowl. ANYTHING  can happen between now and the post season. I'm having a feeling that an AFC team that no one expects will make it to the superbowl this year.... Which at this point is any team other than the Patriots.

EDIT: Forgot to to pick the CLE-SD and JAC-IND games so I bolded in my picks!

16 people in this forum alone think another AFC team is going to WIN the Super Bowl (at least), let alone get there :P

That was the revelation of the day.

I will say this: I went to Patriots training camp this year, and watching Garropolo run the offense was awesome he was really good. But then when Brady came in and started running things, even though it was just training camp you could see he was a much much better QB. He was on point, crisp, and always hit his man, this similarity can be drawn to other teams in the NFL. I think Garropolo, even as he is now would be starting on another NFL team, and he'd be good, but then you are competing against guys like Brady and Rodgers, who are next level better and it becomes obvious that it's not a fair fight. Luck was supposed to be the next up and coming amazing QB but he looks to have taken a few steps back so far this year with some of the best receivers in the NFL working for him. Case in point, if you're without a great QB, you're without a great team in this league.

To be fair, I don't think Luck has a top-10 WR, or a top-25 offensive line to work with. His OL might be in the running for worst in the NFL.

EDIT : The Seahawks are another interesting one. With Kam back, their defense should easily be top 5 with a chance at top-2ish levels. But they would be 0-3 if their QB wasn't so mobile, because their OL is god freaking awful this year, and they also totally lack a top-tier WR corps. Their O line utterly fails at both pass AND run blocking at all levels. And that's why I think they will fail this year, even with an above-average QB. Wilson is kind of tailor-made for a bad O line by extending plays and escaping trouble. Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, they would all eventually get murdered behind that group of cardboard cutouts.

Balance is the key.

You don't believe T.Y. Hilton OR Andre Johnson top WRs? If you paired those two with Brady or Rodgers they would have the gaudiest numbers at the position. Luck has just been off this year, it's as simple as that. And you're right about Seattle's OL, but honestly it's never been that good, they've just made it work

Thats based off of preseason picks. As of right now it seems like everyone and thier grandmom's believe the Pats are going to stroll to another superbowl! Which I dont necesserally blame them the Pats have looked phenomenal so far, but I don't think it will be as easy as most think.

As a Pats fan, I think it'll be anything but a stroll.  Week 4 Bye, and then having to go 12 games before the Post-season leaves a lot of room for problems.  Plus, given last years start, I find it hard to discount every other team in the AFC, just because the Pats are playing well through the first 3 and others are stumbling.

No, I think Edelman and Cobb are plain better, especially at this time. Hilton for Edelman or Johnson for Cobb would degrade those teams (even if they would put up better numbers in NE/GB than in hapless Indy).

TY Hilton hasn't broken 7 TDs in a season. That's mid-tier to me. Andre Johnson at his peak was also mid-tier, but maybe a rung or two up from Hilton. But he's been in decline for a WHILE now. It's like comparing Wes Welker 2007 to Wes Welker current day.

It's true that Seattle's O line wasn't a strength before, but it wasn't a huge turnstile either. With Unger gone, the run blocking went from decent to devastatingly terrible. Lynch is still a beast, but he can't get anywhere the way things are. With the running game a no-show against any decent defense, it will have to all fall on Wilson to succeed, and he simply doesn't have the weapons to do it and keep up with the elite teams in the league. The caveat of course is if their defense can absolutely crush elite offenses, and they haven't convinced me of that. Brady and Rodgers look better than ever this year.

The Bengals are actually a lot like the Falcons, a QB capable of good to great numbers, a great WR1 target, and a mediocre defense. Where they fall apart a bit is the intangibles, which may not be totally fair, but they don't have a wealth of playmakers outside of QB1/WR1, and Dalton has a history of making egregious errors down the stretch.

It's a team I wouldn't mind being wrong about, it's nice to see a team rise up after many many years of poor to mediocre levels of success, and Dalton is still pretty young.

But as yet, I've seen nothing that tells me that their team is deserving to be looked at as an elite-level team.

Doubtless true: the Bungles have their moniker for a reason, and the first weekend of playoff football has become a national holiday due to the Bungles' repated ineptitude. Still, I have a soft spot for those losers, even if I doubt they'll ever ascend past being losers during my lifetime.

You mean because the Chargers O-line is so beaten up? The whole line is made of glass and Phillip Rivers was hit and sacked continously  by the Vikings? the Chargers look in trouble to me .

Also, the stats I was talking about: wins the chi

If anything this does show that having a better than average defense and offense is what really decides who becomes football's world champions each year.

I agree your defense still has to be respectable, but I think your tables show that defense is no longer the deciding factor that it used to be. So unless the wheelchair gets vacated...

It's funny, and sad, because it's true. The holiday of Westivus should become officially recognized!

Well I'm happy there are sane Pats fan here. Facebook and Twitter are littered with obnoxious Pats fans claiming a 16-0 season is basically a guarantee. Hey I wouldn't mind another perfect season if it ended with the Giants winning in the superbowl again XP. But seriously though you basically stated all the big factors going agaisnt the Pats. A much stronger divison (Minus the dolphins), a brutal week 4 bye and the fact that a few AFC teams seem to have the goods if they can get all thier components working right (Broncos, Steelers, Bengals) to be tough opponents. The NFL is so volatile you just never know what is going to happen.

Aye, kinda sad that the team does so well during the reg season and then continues to lay an egg in the post-season.  But, it is what it is, I guess.
