Did we watch the same game? I think the Falcons gained 100 yards more than the Saints in the first half, so subsequently more first downs as well. Yes, the Saints had that drive that ended with a missed field goal, but between that one and the first one of the game, all drives quickly ended in punts. Meanwhile, the only Falcons drive that ended in their own half was the one that led to the blocked punt. As for the turnovers, the Saints certainly didn't earn the one where the Falcons center snapped the ball against his butt.

Saying all but two of their first half possessions quickly ended in punts is both wrong and misleading. Their first half possessions, in order, were: 80 yards for a TD, 3 and out, 30+ yards into Falcons territory then a sack and punt, 3 and out, 50 yards with a dropped long pass and a missed field goal. 2/5 of their possessions were quick punts, the other three saw steady progress and ate clock. More importantly, they did not end in turnovers in the red zone, which means they were better than what their competitors offered.
I'll concede the center's fumble though. Looking at the replay, the Saints didn't get as much pressure as I remembered. Still, points to them for reaching the ball so quickly.
