Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Last Story (Wii) is amazing. Get it.

I played it, I really liked the combat but the constant dialogues, cutscenes were so annoying and boring. after a time fast forwarded every cutscene. I beated the game in about 14h and at the end I didn't even knew anything about the story. the endless dialogues are a huge turn-off for me, that's why I drop most jrpgs.

Thanks for your input! It's on my backlog but not forgotten.

Yea it was a good game, still like the combat and story but it was so linear and narrow. It is certainly worth playing for RPG fans and was overlooked coming out so late. These are the kind of things that the wii u is not getting and why i liked the wii a lot more.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

It's a good game which i enjoyed a lot. A bit less then Xenoblade, but still good.

A potential sequel could improve on some things.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I heard good things about this game.

I definitely wanna check it out one of these days.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I started Xenoblade and The Last Story at the same time. Xenoblade overshadowed TLS at the time. I thought it was a decent ARPG at the time. On my second playthrough now, and I am having much more fun.

I don't know... is Xenoblade REALLY an action RPG? When I think of an action RPG, I think of games where you don't need to grind and in Xenoblade, they FORCE you to grind. It's the one and only thing that pisses me off about the game. I would get really into the story, get to a boss... then all of a sudden, nope. I'd have to spend a few hours grinding away just to beat the boss. Then, I'd advance to the next boss and, again... grind, grind, grind.

It is a good game, but not without its flaws.

Story and characters were enjoyable but was at times very predictable and some of the plot was rushed/should have been expanded.

Battles were fun (as long as you took off auto attack) and they have room for more mechanics to be added.

Probably the main grip I had was the small scale of the world/environments to visit. It was linear and it worked well but should have been bigger.

In saying that, I really hope for Last Story 2. A sequel in the sense of Final Fantasy games are 'sequels'. So same concepts etc.
What I would really like is
-Bigger world
-Grander more explored story (the white tiger was heavily underused)
-Enhanced battle mechanics

This has been in my backlog for years now and I've never gotten around to it. OP, I think you're the one who convinced me to play SMT IV with your review several months back and I wasn't disappointed. So I think it might be time to crack open The Last Story, finally. I trust your gaming taste.

Btw, the attack system sounds kind of like Ni No Kuni? A combination of real-time and turn-based combat?

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I definitely enjoyed it! I played it after playing Xenoblade Chronicles for the first time, so comparatively it felt a bit bland at times, but overall I really ended up loving the game. I would LOVE a sequel or just an unrelated The Last Story 2. Have it become Final Fantasy but for Nintendo systems.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Well, one thing you are always going to find in Jrpgs is dialogue and cutscenes, can't really hold that against a game in the genre. Strange that you completed the game just for the combat tho, it must be really great? I've not had the chance to start on The Last Story yet myself.
