Before moving on to Uncharted and The Last of Us, Naughty Dog considered the idea of rebooting the Jak and Daxter franchise with a more realistic approach, in a PS3 title tentatively named Jak 4 or Jak and Daxter 4.

The project did not pan out, but the concept art studio Scribble Pad Studios, that works for many clients in the industry, including Naughty Dog, Sony, Activision, EA and many more, published a few concept designs on its ArtStation page.

They definitely show a more realistic design for Jak, and the environments (by  Scribble Pad Studios Creative Director James Paick, who worked at Naughty Dog as a Concept Artist from 2008 to 2010) are absolutely lovely. Some of the design appeared in the recently published The Art of Naughty Dog, but finally we get to see them direct feed, in their full glory.

Art is nice, Jak looks bleh.

I wish someone would just remake the original for PS4.

Landscape and city looks amazing, but once again we are shown that Jak just doesn't work as a realistic character. Why can't they just cel-shade it, Zelda U style? It doesn't have to be realistic.

There's a time and place for everything; Jak & Daxter had its time and I'm content with the series not getting another installment. That being said, these illustrations look magnificent.

Oh. My. God.

I don't like the art style they were going for, but the mere fact that it was possible we could've gotten another Jak and Daxter game but didn't makes me kinda angry. Also where is Daxter?
