Anybody else bummed about this?  Hopefully they don't make it like 13 or 15...

I'm hoping they make it more like 15, so we're clearly in different camps. If someone wants to play a 20 year old battle system, then let it be played on a 20 year old game.

Hype.

I'm now filled with determination.

I'm happy that the gameplay will evolve. I hope it makes a better experience.

This is a remake after all.

People saying turn-based combat is a thing of the past make me sad. I still play games with turn-based combat that feel fresh and new.

It's really just because most games of the genre never dropped the stupid archaic shit that make JRPGs hard to enjoy for most people. Random Encounters be damned. It also could be because gaming has grown quite a bit, and now people find the premise of taking turns to attack is, well, fucking stupid, from a "sense" aspect in a game's world, I mean, or maybe because most people like to feel like they're actually playing instead of patiently scrolling through menus, who really knows, but one thing it's for certain, those guys are right, Turn-Based is a thing of the past unless something happens that revolutionizes the game mechanic and makes it fun to people that don't love it already.

So much this ...

The idea of taking "turns" in close combat is stupid and an action based combat is much more intuitive when dodging, attacking, defending or doing other things like casting magic are all done in realtime and it takes much more skills and attention than scrolling through the menus to select an action like you said ...

As long as the remake doesn't feature a mindless KH clone combat I will be happy with whatever SE is cooking up ...

Also FFXIII had bad combat ?!

I literally thought it was the next best thing to FFX since that was the last of it's kind to appeal to the fans who favoured a turn-based FF game ...

Say what they will about the story or whatever but they couldn't even enjoy the combat ?!

Agree with both of you. And to be fair there are already countless versions of FF7 on many different consoles that feature ATB. I am excited to see what SE can cook up for combat here.

What was there to enjoy? Auto-attack? Paradigm shift was all you needed to do. It bored me to tears.

Sounds awesome. Hope they implement the FFXIII combat system. It is extremely stylish and fun, and paradigms would give FFVII some new gameplay mechanics that could go along well with the classic things.

Why would you do that to me Wright? Werent 2 FF's with that combat system enough? This is FF7, not FF13. >.<

Auto-attack won't get you very far when bosses come and it gets more useless when you encounter regular enemies later on ...

Paradigm shift isn't all you needed to do when there was setting up to be had and you also needed to be careful with the characters too since they have varying performance for every role ...

It's arguably one of the harder mainline FF games too so everyone who hasn't played the game can buzz off with their claim of "casualized" ...

In response to your previous post. I disagree. Auto-attack was all i needed. Heal paradigm and tank paradigm. Got through everything until the last open area in the big planet where i finally gave up out of boredom. I had fallen asleep twice while playing it.

Now, as for your point on the post i'm quoting and other people i have to say you have it completely backwards. Do you find FF7 boring? If you do, then you probably aren't one of the people that clamored for a remake for years and years. The new FF is FFXV. FF7 is a classic game that has its loyal fanbase.

This game should be aimed at the people who love it. It should be as much as possible the same game taking advantage of new sound and graphics technology, maybe even voice acting. But to completely make it a game in the line of FFXIII and FFXV is to disrespect its legacy. Regardless of how you feel about turn-based, turn-based (to be fair though, its ATB, not exactly turn based in the same way FFX does it) is what this game is. To make it ARPG is to no longer be making a remake of FF7.
