Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Seriously, why is King K. Rool NOT in Smash as his own character??

I think Awakening would like a few words with you.

Also, considering how K Rool hasn't appeared in any of the modern DKC games, I'd argue that he isn't any more iconic compared to Dark Pit or Lucina, considering those two appeared in recent titles on the 3DS.

What about that stupid ROB? or Sheik, for instance? Your reasoning could have been true, but it just isn't the case.

More people have played DK:C on Snes and Ocarina on N64 than all the FE and Kid Icarus games combined.  Sheik is well known because she is a character in a popular legendary game.  Same for Rool.   Marth is kinda known because he appears in smash bros annually.  Nothing else

Again, I like said, no one really cares for the franchise.  Sure it has fans and is getting better sales, but a lot of that is due to how much Nintendo shoves it down our throats in SSB.  Also you're forgetting the older gamers that grew up playig DK:C.  A game that was once the best selling game of the generation.   Ask any gamer who Rool is and then ask them who Dark Pit is.  I promise 9/10 would not know who Dark Pit is but most will at least remember Rool from DKC.  Uprising wasn't a great selling game and neither was awakening.  Also the games are 2-3 years old.  Not enough time as passed for them to become iconic (Which I doubt they will become in general)

I'm pretty sure if you asked anyone who Dark Pit was, they'd tell you he was a dark version of Pit.

Those "Instead we get" characters are A LOT easier to make than a completely unique character like K. Rool.

Lucina and Dark Pit were added literally last minute just as fanservice as the team had extra time. Lucas and Roy were mostly ported from their respective past games (with Roy having a bit of a different moveset to boot, but not that much), meaning less effort was put into them as opposed to an entirely new character.

Besides, why should K. Rool be in the game when other, more iconic characters like Slippy, Tails, Micaiah (that is if people don't mind too much fire emblem reps), Kamek, Dixie, Zero, and loads others should be in the game?

They still use up character slots, and INB4 someone says that slots aren't a real thing in a fighting game, when it IS a thing.  What's the point of the ballot when the most wanted character doesn't even get in because they're too damn lazy to design a new kit?

I agree with Tails, but he is third party.  Same for Zero, and we have enough Mario already, so no Kamek.   But no, Micaiah and Slippy aren't as known as Rool.

Dixie would be fine too, I would forgive them if she gets in, but I like having more villians in smash.  That's why I think the FE reps are such bad inclusions, they all have similar movesets and none of them are even villians.

Slots that could have been used for more prolific characters that the majority of gamers actually care about like having King K. Rool actually in there, or maybe another Zelda character.  You know, prolific BIG franchises that the majority of gamers  can actually recongize/have ACTUALLY played their games?

So just because a game isn't that popular, it doesn't deserve a rep in Smash Bros?

Nobody would even know who Pit was had it not been for Brawl.  And no, Uprising has close to zero to do with it.  Rool is a famous Iconic character due to his game being popular and people liking the game.  It's one of Nintendo's greatest classics but still he doesn't get in while we have guys that came out 3-4 years ago getting 3 series reps.

At least ROB is that novelty character for being something bundled with the NES back in the day.

Shiek was also a recurring character from Ocarina of Time, so I'm pretty sure she's significantly more well known than most characters, and again, I'd argue that she's slightly more well known than Rool.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It's business and it's a NINTENDO game.   I'm not saying that FE and Kid Icarus don't deserve reps, but they got WAY to many reps, and considering no one really cares about the franchise, and their sales prove my point it's safe to say other more known and popuar characters are more worthy of the slot

I knew who Pit was before Brawl. I was legitimately hyped for him being in there.

Yeah exactly. All of the clones took a fraction of the work of a new character. Like stated before, they didn't make it in the game over anyone else. They put them in the game because it was easy to reskin an existing character and make very minor minor tweaks.

Congrats, you are one of the few, the proud, the marines.

But seriously, Rool's never been in Smash yet everyone wants him in there, and we all already know who he is.  Who hasn't played Donkey Kong Country?
