I think a price cut is needed to even break 30 mil.

You are joking right? You've got to be.

3rd quater last year over 6M PS4s were sold.  So as it stands even if Sony for some reason doesn't sell a single PS4 in the 2nd quarter of this year and sells 500k less than they did in the 3rd this year compared to last year.... they will still break 30M.

As of the start of this year PS4 was at 18.5M, if they sold exactly as much as they did in 2014 (14+M) then they would have landed on 32M. As it stands, they are already selling better than they did by this time last year. Meaning the the PS4 will be at at least 33-35M by the end of 2015.

I think 35 to 36 million by the end of the year would be a fairly reasonable range. A lot of it depends on whether, in light of the new shipment numbers, the VGChartz numbers are roughly spot on or if they're a few hundred thousand units short of the actual sell-through numbers. I'll wait for any potential readjustments though, before making my prediction. For now it's a tentative 35.5 million.

Edit: Just realized these are shipment numbers. So I'm going to go with maybe 37 million shipped?

Sure why not, 25.3 million now

Q2 4.8 million (up from 3.3 million year prior)

Q3 7.9 million (up from 6.4 million year prior)

no, just no :D

the destiny quarter was 3.3 million with nearly 550k september npd
how the hell should sony manage 4.8 million?

sure, japan sales will be heavily up YoY, in FY Q2, but USA probably down or flat.
Europe and RotW is not enough for 1.5 million units more

Q2 3.2 - 3.7 million
Q3 7 - 8 million

end of 2015 sales (shipped) 35.5 - 37 million

36m seems like a safe bet. If it gets a price cut however, I can see it hitting up to 38-39m this year.

100$ pricecut will make is possible :D

everything else, not

but seems like sony has no plans to do a pricecut soon. they still estimate just 16.5 million ps4 for theire fiscal year 2015 (april 2015 - march 2016)
100 $ pricecut would put them at 20.5 million + for the fiscal year

I have a sneaky feeling for $329.99 as the first price drop.

So...what is the scenario you see unfolding here? I mean...it's at 25.3 million as of the end of June and yes the rest of the year to sell just another 4.7 million consoles. Even if Sony doesn't do any better this year than they did last year (They probably will) they'll still hit 35 million units by the end of 2015. You think sales are going to drop more than 50% for the PS4 during the rest of the year?

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I dont think so, but maybeeee.
