smash melee 2001

smash brawl 2008

smash wii u 2014

You can't compare 64 to melee because 64 was such a small game compared to what it is now, it is such a behemoth these days that they can't just have a new game ready within 2 years. Smash 4 was such a huge undertaking and sakurai said the team had to push themselves to their limits. Trust me they're in no hurry to build a new game from scratch anytime soon.

The N64 version has nothing to do with it, Melee was made in UNDER 2 years. Brawl was made in just over 2 years (27months).

Smash Bros U AND 3DS only began production in spring 2012 and was made in 2 and a half years. If they could focus on 1 version it would have been 2 years or less and been far less stressful. Having made the transition to HD devlopment, the next game should be more comfortable for the team anyway

Ultimately they work on games, thats they're job- the team isn't going to spend the next year on holiday and I bet only a fraction of them are making the DLC as is the norm across game developement. The rest are hard at work (after a brief break I hope) on a new title.

Across Melee, Brawl and U, Smash Bros arrived within 2 years of the new systems arrival. Theres nothing supporting your logic of it arriving in 2020, as I said the games releases are determined by the arrival of new hardware, not a 5 year dev cycle. When there is not new hardware they work on other stuff like kirby and kid icarus.

Also maybe they won't make the next Smash from scratch...

Even if the Nx releases in 2016 i just can't see them making another smash untill 2020 because even then it would have to have began production in mid 2017 to be ready by 2020. You're saying it could be a launch game for NX, if the NX releases next year it means they would have to have started making smash5 before smash 4 was even released. This is simply not feasible They need time to rest then come up with new ideas and then make smash 5 when they are ready.

lol, launch window game not launch title and I said 1 of the two games but was more referring to Mario Kart which I expect to see with NX's first 12months (unless DK racing 2 is real). I expect Smash Bros for NX by fall 2018.

What do you think the team will be doing between start of 2015 and mid 2017? Again DLC isn't a valid answer ;)

Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Hey a man could dream, right?

But really Mario 3D World could probably make the transition easily if they take out the stupid touch gimmicks.

Only one or two late Wii U games. I doubt they'll port stuff like Mario Kart or Smash... wouldn't make sense. But I think they can and will remake some past games, like Twilight Princess.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Do people here realise that we didn't have any Wii definitive edition game for Wii U and on Wii we had only simply GC ports!?

Xenoblade X. Definitely.

I don't think we'll see much port from Wii U on NX except from Zelda and Xenoblade X.

Most of the team will go back to working on Namco bandai games. Also a launch window is 6 months not 2 years so the nx launch window will probably be from november 2016 untill may 2017.

Probably nothing, they'll make the console backwards compatible, and the games are all on the eShop. The reason why Wii got ports is because of a lack of digital versions and no one over the age of 12 had a GameCube. Plus the GameCube controller sucked, proven by the vastly superior versions of  RE4 and Metroid Prime on Wii. RE4 on Wii was also, easily, the definitive version of the game.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

DKC Returns & Xenoblade were ported over just a few years after their initial release. Also many people thought Nintendo would never jump on the DLC or Mobile bandwagons but now they are embracing both pretty strongly so seeing how successful remasters of few year old games have been on PS4/XBO may cause Nintendo to jump aboard as well especially for games that underperformed due to the small Wii U user base.

It not same thing, they ported console game to handheld.

Whats a point of defintive edtion if NX will have BC or Nintendo can do simple port and realese Wii U games via Virtual Console.

How many Wii defenitive editions games we saw on Wii U!? Zero!

Well like I have said many times, I am a strong supporter of NX being a family of devices that share the majority of games. I don't think NX will be backwards compatible with Wii U and considering the huge success of remastered post-2010 games on PS4/XBO, I think Nintendo may want to do the same with select Wii U games that didn't sell up to their potential like Tropical Freeze or Xenoblade X.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Most likely it will have backwards compatibility, so I don't think it will have many Wii U games remastered. I'm thinking that Wii games like Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario Galaxy, Punch Out!! and others from the Wii/GCN days will be remastered.
