It would have sold around 800K-1M by now if it wasn't free. That's good, but not nearly as amazing as some of you guys are claiming this to be.

You didn't answer my question. Do you think this success comes just from being free, or do you think it has something to do with the quality of the game?

It's a completely new game that released on PS+ (that doesn't happen often, I hear people complain about the PS+ game selection all the time), it's an addicting online multiplayer game (so you already need a PS+ subscription to play the game anyway) and it had a good word of mouth (you don't need much to convince people when you say it's free).

Using the 5 million downloads as an argument as to why it's a great game is silly. Plenty of great games out there that bombed anyway. But hey, if you want to use "sales" as an indication of quality be my guest...

You still didn't answer my question. Just give me a straight up answer, yes or no.

Did the quality of this game influence these numbers for the better?

I never said it was a bad game. I'm arguing against the people who claim the game is great and a big success because it was downloaded 5 million times.

If you want to convince me the game is great do so by talking about the actual game, not its sales.

Then why are you arguing against people saying it was downloaded 4.5 million times because it's a good game, and not arguing against people saying it's a good game because it's downloaded 4.5 million times?

You replied to someone who said these numbers aren't just because the game is free, but also because the game is good. The only one who entered the subjet on sales=quality was you in that reply. And, (and I'm taking your reply as a "yes, the quality of the game did influence downloads for the better") since you agree with the guy you quoted, but provide something that is, presumably, supposed to be a counter-argument to a discussion that wasn't even there, I just have to wonder why you even decided to reply to begin with.

So you're saying that it would've been downloaded 4.5 million times if it wasn't free? The only way it could ever reach those numbers was by being free, so what I said is correct. I didn't make any statements about the quality of the game. It's the second game in the franchise and the first one never got this attention. Why? Because it wasn't free.

See, you're doing it again. It doesn't work with me, fella. Stop trying to use absolutes in order to artificially bring the weight of the argument onto your side.

It wouldn't have done so well. Do you understand the difference?

Looking at the STEAM sales it would've only done around 20% of what it "sold" now if it wasn't free. So yeah, the main reason it was downloaded so many times was because it was free.

Compare this game with other new games that were free right from the bat (and similar production values). Any other comparison makes no sense.

I'd love to see the evidence you used to determine that it would have done 20% of what it did if it wasn't free.

Did it being free help? Of course. Is it also because the game has great word of mouth? Yup.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

So, if it wasn't for the fact it was free with a PS+ subscription, it would only have sold 500k? I wonder ... given there are over 10 million PS+ subscribers, why the hell didn't the other 5.5m people download this FREE game? And, given that there are lots of games that have been on PS+ that haven't come close to being downloaded 4.5m times, what made more people download this game? Clearly not everyone downloaded it because it was free and clearly it was downloaded more times than other free PS+ games. What would you conclude from that?

It sold 500k on Steam (which wasn't free). Keep in mind that Steam sales were also affected by the good worth of mouth from PS4 owners.

(Frowning at the argument and thinking about the "do not feed... " sign)

I love the game and i about to Plat it... Good fun indeed.

That is actually a check mate, so I see no reason to continue this nonsensical debate.

Why quote me when you obviously didn't even read my post? 20% of 5 million is one million. Look at my last sentence and you'll also understand why most games on PS+ didn't reach those numbers.

Declaring a check mate doesn't make it true. ;)

I removed that sentence but it is finished. The game was downloaded that many times because it took off on Twitch and Youtube and word of mouth pushed it further. How many people are let's playing Rain compared to this game? It's a great game and that's why it's done better than most. Just accept it and move on.

Very deserved, such an addicting game!
