Like changing the songs, maybe making them less orchestrated, adapting them to Rock/Hard Rock/Metal, or electronic music, or having new theme song or something.

I guess we can expect some sort of upgrade from the PSOne compositions, but do you think there is a possibility that someone with artistic power will say: "Let's change the music!" Or do you have absolute faith in people you don't know?

I am not sure if Square has 100% rights to FFVII's compositions, but imagine if Uematsu enters into some legal dispute by demanding certain amount to have his music (if he has some power over those compositions) featured again or being subject to arrangements and then Square opts to having the compositions completely left out from the Remake and then in come the new ones. If someone has some information about the rights and legalities concerning these compositions feel free to discard this possibility or confirm it. :)

Would you give new tunes composed for the Final Fantasy VII Remake a chance to convey feelings in key moments in the story that were experienced by those memorable old compositions in the original game, or will you go apeshit at the sole replacements of Nobuo Uematsu's tunes?

Discuss.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I am sure that Square probably kept the rights to the music in a work-for-hire type situation with Uematsu. After all, it has popped up in many other games now, along with most other FF soundtracks that he has composed.

I would be fine with updating/remastering the soundtrack for the game. If you are going for a remake, then why not remake everything about it.

Generally, anything you create at work (Like being hired to compose some songs) belong to the ones who hired you.

Redoing the music VS replacing it with a new soundtrack isn't the same thing. They be retards to change it with something new. That's just a thing that helps the do not buy list. And a waste of time. Instead of just re-recording the scores. There's no real reason for for the composer to pull anything like that.

They should do one of 2 things for the soundtrack.

1) Orchestral versions. (easy enough, Distant Worlds has already done the iconic ones).

2) Fan made remixes (www.ocremix.org)

Else, don't bother. No point in anything new, if there's one bit they don't have to put much effort into updating it's the music.

Hmm, pie.

I really liked Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII soundtrack and I don't mind something like this in FF VII Remake

Those are SE Songs and they can do whatever hell they want with them. Are they going to do that? Of course not. Even if uematsu have that option he Wouldn't use. FF7 is the crown jewel for everybody that worked on and played.

Not like they could make it worse.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm sure they will add a bit more production value to the songs, flesh them out a bit. However, I doubt they will be that different. The music in seven is considered some of the best they have ever done, there is very little reason for them to drastically change things.

Obviously they should go even more retro and use 8-bit music fan recreations that somehow sound really close to the PSX original: https://youtu.be/OpiespNgyEo?t=26
