Forums - Gaming Discussion - Possibility for MH5 Ps4?

lately many ps4 game announcements are showing that developers are bringing back big japan games to the playstation system. The last announcement of DQxi confirms that. A game what i'm still missing for the ps4 is a new "Monster Hunter", another game what would be very important for the ps4 sales in japan. Could it be that capcom announce a Monster Hunter 5 at TGS 2015 for Ps4? Lately it seems capcom wants to support the ps4 too...

Unlikely. 3DS simply has so much more install base in japan and already proofed that the game sells to the install base.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Doubtful. Didn't Nintendo and Capcom work out a deal to lock Monster Hunter to them?

This.

MH series has better reception on handheld, so it would be on the 3ds. Would love to have it on Vita, but not sure if there are any Nintendo-Capcom partnership about MH series.

Even i didn't know, but til now i never heard about an exclusive deal between nintendo and capcom about MH

No i don't think so Dragon quest was popular on Playstation 2 but not Monster hunter

But Ps2 had big install base butno monster sold over 1 million on it.Monster hunter is simply not popular on home consoles compared to handheld.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

pokemon = monster hunter

both are popular on handheld system unlike dragon quest situation

There is always a possibility, but it depends if Capcom:

A) Has the money/resources to make such a game (or find someone willing to fund it)
B) Are willing to risk less sales on a smaller install base compared to the proven 3DS install base.
C) Can even make a profit on such a game compared to previous installments.

I would love a MH on home console again, loved MH3 on Wii U. Was great, even if it was just an upscaled port.
Still want MH4 on Wii U.

They certainly do. Monster Hunter scale wise is actually much smaller then Dragons Dogma which a huge sprawling open world and story cinematics. Moster Hunetr has more monster variety (+better artstyle) but cost wise I don't see a console version of MH being any more demanding on them then Dragons Dogma or DD ONline.

I think the question isn't so much of whether a console version could make a profit but more a case of why would they give up superior profits that can be found on a handheld platform? The franchise sales are 80% from Japan and they've clearly shown that they're more interested in a handheld MH then a console one. I think a turning point will come with the 3DS successor. If its close to Wii U strength, Capcom will most likely utilise its power, at which point they'll more or less be making a console quality assets and so I could see them making it cross platform with NX/PS4
