The game cube (another Nintendo under performer) had an average attach rate of like 8.9 games per owner the highest of any console.

Edit: I see some else has posted it was 9.2, he's probably right. I just know Gamecube holds the record.

Edit 2: damn 9.6 not 9.2.

It doesn't hold the record.

Who hold the record?

Similar to Vita fans that but almost everything that comes out.

Xbox 360, using VGC numbers, but the PS2 also had a higher attach rate than the Gamecube (using Sony numbers).

Mostly attributed to the low hardware sales, but shows how much fans love Nintendo games.

Then why doesn't the Vita have similar attach rates?

The second part in you sentence contradicts the first part in your sentence.

That's true tbf, but I meant that it had higher attach rates to previous Nintendo consoles.

Tsk tsk, Nintendo games have some serious attach rates. Wii U having a big attach rate would mean the overall attach rate (total software sold vs total hardware) would be very high.

Well the Wii U does have the best attach rate for current Gen consoles according to the data here on VGChartz:

PS4: 4.73 Games per Console

Xbox ONE: 4.72

Wii U: 5.17

PSVita: 3.36

3DS: 3.65

Granted, the difference is not very big, but it's still the console with the highest attach rate. The attach rate of the PSVita and 3DS btw is really awful

That difference is mainly attributed to the fact that the Wii U has been out for a year longer. Attach rates normally go up over time (which is why the 360 and the PS3 have reached a 10+ attach rate now). I remember someone checked a while ago, and the PS4 and XBO attach rates are higher compared to the Wii U at the same point in its life.

Attach ratios of handhelds aren't comparable to the attach ratios of home consoles.

I know the attach rate goes up over time, but I'm not convinced that that's the only reason the Wii U is on top

I also know that the attach rates of handheld consoles are not totally comparable, but it still makes me sad

Of course, the fact that the group that constitutes the majority of Wii U owners are rather big Nintendo fans (and rather adamant gamers in general) which make them more likely to buy more games, plays an important role.

However, at the end of the gen, I expect both the PS4 and the XBO to be ahead of the Wii U in attach rate, simply due to more releases, and, I expect, a longer life.

More than half of Wii U owners have Mario Kart 8...that's crazy. Smash 3DS is also doing VERY well! That was a very smart move and it seems like Dragon Quest XI is following that console and handheld trend. I think Nintendo should follow this trend as well, making their games available on consoles and handheld.

Nintendo has been doing that for ages...

Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. (this gen), Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, Metroid etc.

What I mean is making the same game available even if it means a graphical downgrade like Smash. I think this is the route that they should take. So like, making both of their consoles x86 so software porting between consoles would be less stressful.

Feels good to know that I've contribuited to all those high attach rates.
