It's because Nintendo knows how to make good games but not good consoles

Wii U is very good console, just with bad sales. Also, games on first place are thing that define every console, not sales or architecture.

Im not saying the wii u is a bad console, it's just that the wii u is not doing so well because Nintendo didn't make promote it as good as it should have been

Fixed.

That's mainly due to low Wii U sales, but that's still really high.

Mostly attributed to the low hardware sales, but shows how much fans love Nintendo games.

Then why doesn't the Vita have similar attach rates?

The second part in you sentence contradicts the first part in your sentence.

Not really surprising considering the obvious reasons which shall not be named by me.

Vivster's afraid!

More than half of Wii U owners have Mario Kart 8...that's crazy. Smash 3DS is also doing VERY well! That was a very smart move and it seems like Dragon Quest XI is following that console and handheld trend. I think Nintendo should follow this trend as well, making their games available on consoles and handheld.

Wow. Those are some incredibly insane attach rates.
And A LOT of Wii U and 3DS games appear to be greatly undertracked here. Either that or they have very high digital sales - (But this charts needs to find a method of tracking digital sales so that all this confusion can be avoided)
And some are slightly overtracked as well.
Nintendo Land close to 5 million and ahead of Mario U?!?
Mario 3D World is close to 4.5 million and ahead of Smash Wii U by quite the margin. So that appears to be undertracked.
Pokemon X/Y is at 14 million!
Mario Kart 7 is close to 12 million!
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are already past 10 million and ahead of Mario 3D Land (which is overtracked)
New Mario 2 looks alright w/ digital.
Animal Crossing New Leaf is just insane. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it has that many digital sales.
Smash 3DS looks fine.
GO LUIGI'S MANSION!!! Closing in on 5 million, and raising my hopes for a Luigi's Mansion 3 in the future!
No really, I hope Luigi's Mansion becomes it's own recurring franchise! Luigi deserves more love than he's getting!

I wonder how Fire Emblem: Awakening must be doing, I hope it's close to or surpassed 2 million units at this point.

The game cube (another Nintendo under performer) had an average attach rate of like 8.9 games per owner the highest of any console.

Edit: I see some else has posted it was 9.2, he's probably right. I just know Gamecube holds the record.

Edit 2: damn 9.6 not 9.2.

It doesn't hold the record.

Nintendo has been doing that for ages...

Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. (this gen), Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, Metroid etc.

This isn't necessarily attach rate though is it? Attach rate is how many games each person buys for the console. I don't think this is necessarily true but Nintendo could conceivably have a lower attach rate but people all just buy these few main games. So if everyone on the Wii U just buys the same 5 games. But everyone on the PS4 buys 10 games, but they're all completely different, you'll get a slanted impression.

This is attach rate for specific games and some are insane, MK8 have 54% attach rate!
