My friends had an Atari, and then my family got ColecoVision. So Mario in Donkey Kong is pretty much my first real lasting home gaming memory. We also had Ladybug, Xaxxon and DK Jr. My personal first was NES.
2nd generation
I had Intellivision, Colecovision, and Game & Watch haldheld games.

I kind of wish we would have owned a ps1 also.
5th Gen with the PS1.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
I started with an MSX, 1983. Birth place of MGS and the first and only successful MS console in Japan. I guess it's third generation although it's not listed as such anywhere. It came out just a bit before the NES in Japan.
I know I didn't get my NES until 1991, even though SNES came out that year. It seemed as if no one really owned it or knew about it until 1993 when we could rent them from certain stores.
Very fond memories of NES/SNES/Genesis.
