Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony financial results Q1 FY15, 663 million $ profit, PS4 ships 3 million

Lol again, Sony got $39 million in insurance money for the 2011 PSN hack this quarter, that explains why the gaming division is so profitable.

Edit: Whoops made an exchange rate mistake, the insurance money helped but the game division would have been very profitable without it as well.

Yeah I didn't want to bring that up to rain into the parade of the excited. It shows how the game segment as a whole is still running on razor-sharp margins. Imagine how red the figure would have come up if Sony had cut the price of the PS4 by $50-$100 a few months ago...

Incredible numbers from the gaming division! PS4 is killing it.

Lol, Vita not even shown anymore...so bad Sony?

Still very good quarter for Sony, for gaming as well as the company as a whole. Really didn't expect PS4 shipments to be up YoY.

Q4 this FY will have Uncharted and maybe ST right?

If  it ships over again in Q2 there is now way it won't be up yoy.

But this is against Destiny + TLOUR last year, was ecpevting to have a more agrevisse approach to MGS so it could put a competition, but with 3M already I can see it going to 3.3 as last year.

There must have be a price cut for holidays, so it will most likely be up in Q3.

Well Sony has adjusted their PS4 shipment goal up to 16.5 million, from 16 million and are also expecting to pay more in marketing than first assumed, I think they'll go all out in the holidays (well to the best of their abilities with the lack of huge first party hitters).

i think they will pay more in marketing because of the delay of Uncharted. CoD and Battlefront bundles will move a lot of systems though. if they make a black friday bundle of CoD and Battlefront at 350$ (or 330$ if they already had a 50$ price drop) then that would sell shit loads.

Up 300k/11% with no price drop and fiercer competition? This console man!

Sure but why this adjustment in marketing expenditure expectations after this quarter? That's kinda weird... well maybe it's a reaction to MS at E3.

Anyway, how do you just go ahead and ship more than X1, 360, 3DS and Wii U combined? That's crazy to me. People can fight over holiday NPD wins all they want, it just feels kind of pointless when you see results like this.

yeah when looking at the big picture Sony easily has this gen in the bag. its why they are running away with CoD, AC, and Battlefront deals. its why they can afford to delay Uncharted 4 and delay their games. the PS4 currently beating every other competing console and handheld combined is just nutts.

I'll update as soon as I can, just woke up.

A little bit bummed that we didn't get PS3 shipments, but incredible PS4 numbers. The Gaming segment did incredibly well, along with Devices. Pictures did terribly like I thought.

Damn, great numbers, did not expect PS4 to be up.

Even though Xbox always does better comparatively in the holidays, getting outshipped 3:1 in a quarter is pretty bad for them.
