I think it's a home console, with the announcement of Dragon Quest XI being on 3DS and NX, it wouldn't make sense for it to appear on two Nintendo handhelds

I put in the little pink unicorn. Because that is what people are currently making it out to be, and it's not. It will probably be some reviled as gimmicky and the doom of Nintendo when it is released and only do slightly better then the Wii U.
My guess would be handheld, the 3ds is the end of its lifecycle nintendo needs to boost its sagging HH sales.
As for the DQ XI annoucement I believe that NX version would be the updated HH version of 3DS game, that way Sony gets the console exclusive and Nintendo gets the HH exclusive

This is actually what I was leaning towards. Before ppl say, " its a home console", maybe Nintendo wants to change the concept of home vs handheld.
If it is a console it will be Nintendo's next commercial flop. A handheld would do decently a fusion could go either way but I guess it will be a flop.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Something like this is what I always think, but currently a lot is possible. Knowing Nintendo it will probably a dissapointing choice ...
The NX marks the point where Nintendo drops their utopian, if not lunatic, ideals and step into the real world. The console will feature paid online multiplayer to ensure that its quality remains high, no trace of their historically annoying, unnecessary and expensive backwards compatibility, a 2TB hard drive to store your physical and digital games (as well as their accompanying DLC) and graphics so technologically advanced that you will be ashamed for praising the Wii U's obviously lacking visuals back in the day.
Truly, the NX marks a new era for Nintendo. An era that won't be defiled by blatant self-restrain and cowardice in the face of new ideas and inventions, and all true Nintendo fans who opposed the heinous Wii and Wii U line of consoles since the very beginning shall, at long last, rejoice.
