With the announcement of Dragon Quest XI for PS4 after a stint of Nintendo-only realeses for the mainline series, I was wondering if maybe this could be a sign of what could happen with next Monster Hunter games, a franchise that has become Nintendo-focused after it's beginning on the PS2.

Do you think that it is possible that Nintendo has opted out to incentivise exclusive deals for franchises like Dragon Quest and, in the case of this thread targetted discussion, Monter Hunter and therefore see future releases of Monter Hunter games as multiplatform releases out of the gate, possibly coming to other consoles and perhaps more likely the PS4?

Or do you think that maybe Capcom could opt by themselves for a multiplatform release of next Monster Hunter thinking in maximising sells by releasing in other consoles?

Or maybe there is a chance that Nintendo would find it very important to secure this franchise and not let it release anywhere else?

Capcom has recently done some exclusivity deals with other consoles like Dead Rising 3 for Xbone and Street Fighter V/Deep Down with PS4, so continuing their exclusivity deal with Nintendo may not be that surprising either.

But what do you think, is there a chance we will have multiplatform releases of Monter Hunter from now on?

Discuss.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I doubt it. Monster Hunter on PS4 would be very expensive. Monster Hunter on 3DS is not expensive and it sells better. And Monster Hunter was always a handheld series.

If it's like DQXI where both versions essentially look like completely different games, I'd be happy to have a 3DS/PS4 combo.

But I don't think it's going to happen.

MH on the Wii was something fans didn't see in a long time. Plus it sold a good amount due to new features, online and monsters. However it was a Nintendo console not Sony or Microsoft. Adding to this its a damn seller on 3ds and increases 3ds sales. I don't see it becoming multiplat. Nintendo is definitely going to secure it for the NX. However for it to sell on the NX they have to do the Tri equivalent which is new features.

Well it had it's best time on handhelds. :F

I see no reason for Capcom not to release the next MH on 3ds AND vita. It wouldn't cost em that much to port it to vita I'm sure there is an audience for it there. The question is, will Ninty moneyhat them again? I think the damage on psvita is done already, so Ninty will have no reason to do that this time around.

I don't see them making a ps4 version though. Would be too expensive and wouldn't be that profitable.

But that ain't the same as saying they were always a handheld series now, is it. :P

Yeah I think it can. But it's probably going the 3DS/NX route.

They're two different companies and SE seems to be more up to multi-plat production since last generation than ever. Capcom likes to be bought off it seems. (You could make some good analogies with that...)

Never say never, though.
