I won't know where my house would be until weeks later. The people I'm working for provide me residence over there and pay the rent. I thought about it but unless I ship to the hotel they're gonna be holding me at... it's just a bad idea. Too many unknowns my first week or two there.

..?.? Uhm. Normally.. A company will pay a moving fee for when you go abroad and most of the time actually ship a part of your stuff ahead to your new house.. Are you sure you're not involved in a sex slave thingy or organ harvest??

They pay for my travel expenses but no shipping. I read their terms carefully.

I have to take an AIDS test the next day I'm there! If anyone fails the medical they get shipped back. There's dozens of us from all over the world.

When I moved to Canada I gave all my PAL games and movies away, they wouldn't work here anyway. (2002)
I shipped the rest. You only need a contact address and have to pick it up at a warehouse after it arrives. It goes by units of volume and wasn't too expensive, I could have easily taken everything, I had lots of space left.

I got rid of all my PC game boxes (although unnecessary I found out later) and put all the manuals and CDs together. It's all still in boxes... Same with my Laserdisc collection, still packed away. My collection of ntsc dvds (I imported 90% of my movies while in Europe) is happily sitting on my shelves though.

I wanted to ship my 10k worth of home theater equipment even though I had to get a 750 watt voltage converter to be able to use it. I took the PC as well, might as well take the monitor and desk and some other useful stuff.

Thinking back, I should have taken a PAL tv and all my PAL stuff as well. I guess I wouldn't have used it long, yet it would be nice to have now. Boot up the Playstation, N64 and Dreamcast on an old PAL crt tv.

If you're not sure, pack it up and ship it. When you have kids you might get nostalgic feelings to play those old games with them. Although I guess the way things are going everything will be either remade or remastered by then :)

Just keep them. Either find some place to store them (someone in your family), or pack them and bring them with you. Sure, this might cost you, but not nearly as much as if you were to re-buy them again throughout the years. Plan a budget to bring them with you, or send money at a regular pace to the person you left them with so they can send them back to you gradually over time...

You WILL regret selling them if you do. Trust me.

I would never sell my game collection no matter what. However I do plan to play through them all again periodically so that is a part of my reason not to sell them.

You may not have an intention of playing them again but who knows, at some point in the future you may end up wanting to play them again. I'd keep them, personally. Any collection is worth keeping.

The last 4 posts have really given me more ammo and reason to hold onto my collection after being convinced to sell/give them away.

Before this gen I'd sell every game after I was finished with it. However, since this gen has started I've started to keep the games that I really like or believe I'll play in the future. I'd say keep the really rare ones, the ones that are your favorities or think you'll play again in the future.

Dude I have friends and family in UAE and if you moving there you will be earning Arab money, zero tax and living it up. Sell the games, donate them and soon you can buy them back and add tons more to your collection.

Additionally, you will be enjoying the amazing outdoor stuff they have between the Emirates.

Out of curiosity, what will you be working as?

If you're not going to play them... sell them or donate them to someone who will. It's just material possessions...

I'd have them shipped. It might take a while til it arrives, but you'll get them eventually. It wouldn't cost too much either.

Then have someone you know ship them later, after you get your place.
