China, Jingzhou province, at the upper floor of a Mall in Chine the floor at the end of an escalator collapses as a mother and son walk ahead. The mother pushes her son to safety before she falls down the now gone maintenance hatch that served as floor and is apparently dragged by the still-running mechanism of the escalator.

that's not what happened. the mall was closing off the escalator because it was faulty. This mother thought that if she stepped over the faulty part she would be fine. It was her own fault and needlessly put her kid in danger

One of the comments said that the reason for there being three staff members at the top was that the escalator was closed for maintenance or something and the mother requested that they open it up for her anyways. The reason that they were so nonchalant about her falling through was that they expected it to happen.

Still an awful way to go though, and I feel terrible for the kid.

That is not what happened. Two female assistants almost fell into that hole and notified of the dangerous state of the escalator but the people in charge kept the thing going.

There were no signs saying that there were problems with the escalator.

The mother rides the escalator with her son (who requested it) and she was notified at the last minute by the female employees that the floor was not safe so she grabs her son and this tragedy happened.
