I take that as a possitive. I think it will be something similar to Ni-No-Kuni and whilst you'll have enemies on the screen, you will still have to engage them and enter a separate section for the battles. I don't think they wanted to show you that part yet.

IGN article says it will be on NX and PS4. Any truth to this? Or is IGN just full of shit.

Basically what happened is SE's President said the's an NX version coming along with DQX during live stream and the PR department hours later said an NX version is under consideration, pick which ever statement. DQX is confirmed to be NX bound, I think IGN are putting 2 and 2 together as NX being brought up in the stream was random as hell no one was even asked about it and it's a platform no one knows anything about, well SE may actually know despite their PR statement.
