Forums - Politics Discussion - Sandy Bland questionable arrest leads to mysterious death.

I never said anything about not getting out of the car. The guy was on a power trip. It's not wise to say no to a cop even when they are wrong. Your life could be on the line. No point in talking about your rights either. The smartest thing is just to reply to their question and move on with your life. People die because they believe they can get away with privileges. They forget that a system is never perfect when run by humans. Some humans don't care about your privileges.

But it is something that happened that must be regarded: the officer asked her to exit her car, she did not.

Something to keep in mind: Resisting arrest is illegal in some countries, like the United States, no matter if the officer is charging you illegally. I was once detained (because someone thought I was a burglar in my friend's house) and my advice would be to keep calm and listen to the officer.

I was a jailer for a year and a cop for almost ten years. There was so much misinformed on this case--and the truth was always easily accessible to anybody willing to look for real answers. I'll read this thread and post my thoughts.

I await your input. Will have to read it later though: gotta go to work.

Don't rely on the Young Turks for your info: TYT's biased.

Here's raw footage without portions cut out by TYT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URAZ3umt7v0

In what way was the arrest warranted? He didn't even mention why she was obligated to step out of the car. That police should loose his job immediately considering his behavior.

Sounded like shouting to you? You heard her shouting then he slammed her head into the ground. That's shouting.

We don't have the head slam on video though so we can't verify that independent of testimony.

She escalated the situation expressing why she was annoyed? He could've simply given her a ticket for this mild traffic offence and been on his day. He's the one threatening her. He's the one dragging her out of the car. He's the one with his tazer out and he's the one smashing her head into the ground.

When you don't comply with police orders, I do believe they can then exercise non-lethal force, force you are not allowed to resist. According to the officer, she kicked him when he was trying to pull her out. When a police officer orders you to exit your vehicle, you are breaking the law when you don't exit your vehicle.

If she's shouting that he slammed her head, and the female officer says why he did that, that means he slammed her head.

She did not have to exit her vehicle until he stated why he was asking her to exit her vehicle, instead of doing that he started shouting and threatened to drag her out. He said she was under arrest, and she asked 'for what?' to which he then continued to threaten her with violence. Can you give the time stamp when she kicks him? Because I can't see it.

As I said...if one values their life sometimes you should just say yes. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong. Survival is key.

Btw, for a country where a lot of people on the right seem to be angry at the government all the time, it is interesting how the same people seem to defend almost fascist behavior from the police. I am glad to live in a country where the behavior of the police in the video would never be defended.

Actually she did have to exit her vehicle as soon as he made it clear that it was an order (which he did almost immediately if not immediately) and he did not have to give any reason.

As for why I think it's scarry, it's because anything that can lead to closer (physical) confrontations with the police is scary, given all the tragic outcomes we've heard about. But if police can order you to get out of your car without suspicion of any violation, then there's probably no avoiding it.

If you don't act like a moron during a routine traffic stop, you'll be just fine.

You do not have to exit your car unless you are under arrest. It's wise to exit the car to avoid a confrentation but it's perfectly legal to stay in your car if you are not under arrest.

This was a big issue when a serial killer was posing a police officer ordering people to get out of their car, and when they did he kidnapped them. You have to get out of your car is a cop shows that he's a police officer and orders you to get out if you are under arrest.

Again, you should get out of the car but she was in her right not to as there was no reason to.

If this happened just once in the UK there would be rallies in Parilment for weeks.
Hell, a police officer killed a guy in London and that caused the infamous London Riots of 2011 that lasted five days.

America is one of the only places they can get away with this shit.
