Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shadow of the Colossus... Not really enjoying it?

I enjoyed it but liked Ico more surprisingly. I hated Ico the first 30-60 minutes but ended up loving it. Very rare that ever happens. If you can deal with the control of SOTC it becomes a great experience with a really cool ending too.

Yes, though it has been a while, still have the updated HD version on my PS3.

Why hate systems that bring you great games?

PSN: Aceburg0413

XBOX Live: Sheep of Doom13

Nintendo:  SheepofDoom13

3DS FC:  3222 - 5562 - 9867

I bought SotC shortly after the release on the PS2 (2005), but I haven't played it until last year (2014), because I thought it's a boss rush game (and I don't really like boss fights...). So I played it 2014 on PS2. In my opinion it aged pretty well, because the concept of the game is very unique (also a bit repetitive, indeed). And no – it's not just a boss rush game (damn, I was such a fool...). It's at least as much about atmosphere and exploring – just like ICO.

My advice: Play it with your heart, and not with your head. The game gets better with every coloss and every location you explore. Play it at least to the 8th coloss to get an impression how different the locations and colossi can be.

If you liked the atmosphere of ICO, then there is a chance to like SotC, too. Both games are complementary. The feeling of loneliness and the deserted landscapes are an intention of the developers. Maybe the limitations of the PS2 forced them to make it deserted, but I think it's like the fog in Silent Hill on PSX – the developers had to make this compromise due to hardware limiations, but it also has a positive effect.

A friend of mine played the HD Remaster on PS3 a few months ago, and he also complained about the controls and the camera after the first colossi (I've never had any serious problems...). He finished the game, but I think for him it's more like a love-hate relationship. In fact it's a love it or hate it game after all...

The actual fights on the Colossi were pretty much select the sword, and use it, getting up to the weak points were puzzles. I personally found the game boring, bland and very sluggish, but if you like the game and I have tarnished the game in your view, I'm sorry. If I want that style of game, I will play Catherine, as it has IMO a better control scheme, and a much faster pace.

Why are you making comparisons between Shadow of the Colossus and Catherine? They're nothing alike.

I wasn't feeling it either. Played it for 30 minutes and didn't like, but I played it for 2-3 more hours because of the hype/praise and still didn't like it. It was pretty repetitive. Also, the controls, camera and framerate were awful, and the world was just dull. If you're not enjoying it, don't bother continuing.

Im seeing a lot complain about the controls... Its weird I never got bothered by them. However maybe I just adjust better than others, because I had a friend try SotC a few days ago actually and he felt the controls felt weird.

Neither did I. Controls are fine and combined with the game engine they are perfect.

I have advanced my position on a colossus just by seeing patterns in it's movement and predicting where I would land. I have moved from a shoulder to another shoulder as I hold and release from the colossus' back as it tries to shake me off.

I have jumped from their shoulder to their hand to attack a weak point with complete ease.

The camera is perfect. It gives you the complete freedom to look wherever you want. I have zero issues with both controls and camera, but of course, this game is not for people who like everything handed down to them in a table spoon.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Hmmm I really want to like it. I enjoyed what I played in ICO... I'll give it another shot tomorrow. Got a bit frustrated with the controls and camera.

You're dead to me.

I never had any problem with the controls or camera. SOTC is one of my favorite games.
