So scince last year on youtube and on many other gaming related forums people argue about "downgrades" and "bad graphics" and in their opinion, they suffer from the "bad consoles".

I tried to think about this blame from a neutral/developers viewpoint and i came to the conclusion, it isnt justified. Here are my arguments:

1. Pc gaming is relativly unrelevant. More People do play multiplattsform games on consoles. Developer should focus on their biggest market

Um.. PC Gaming revenue has overtaken console..  it did so in 2014.. and its increasing..     Console gaming revenue has been shrinking (although it did see a postive in June)..   so..  this makes your first point and most other points..   well.. incorrect..

Please... get your facts right. Its not as simple as you make it sound. Developers.... the people making the games we play..... will tell you any and everyday that they make more money from the console dales of their game. And this is assuming that somehow you choose to ignore that every mutiplat game sells more on consoles than they do on PC.

And as far as "revenue" goes.... you do realize that the sale of a single GPU even at $2000 is counted in its entirety towards "revenue" right? What good is that for a developer?

His point is entirely accurate. Consoles are a developers biggest market. Don't believe that, just look at any NPD top ten software sales.

I just think developers release lazy PC ports sometimes. I see issues (mouse not working when going to menu or coming out of menu; fixed pausing again usually) and crashes (usually when I do excessive pausing trying to fix mouse) with GTA:SA and other graphical glitches with other GTA sometimes. They don't optimize or get rid of all the bugs when they release a PC version. I suppose all the different hardware might play a roll in this though.

Stopped reading at PC gaming is relatively "unrelevant" :p

I don't complain though... Most games have graphical settings and/or mods that allow you to really push your computer. Some games might limit their graphical scope but they tend to receive larger budgets due to being multi platform, so it's a net gain generally.

PC gaming is more relevant than ever right now probably and a decent chunk of most big multiplatform games sales are from PC. I used to only play PC for most of last gen and it really fucking sucks when you get a shitty ass lazy port so I understand why they complain about the consoles holding the graphics back because it is true obviously, the game is going to look as good as it can be for the lead console and then the PC may get a straight port or some scraps thrown their way if they are lucky.

That being said, surely we are going to get to a point soon where the graphics of a game won't matter anymore, last gen some games looked little utter shit, completely blurry and grainy etc, but if every game looked as good as say Uncharted 4 or Horizon  isn't that good enough? Meh I dunno, i'd be happy with that.

1. Pc gaming is relativly unrelevant. More People do play multiplattsform games on consoles. Developer should focus on their biggest market

2. Actual AAA-titles (like Witcher 3) wouldnt be possible at all in this quality without console versions, because the pc sales would never fit the developement costs.

3. There are already alot pc exclusive games but they are mostly looking even worse then multiplattform games on pc.

4. PC gamer dont pay alot for software. Some do pirate, many do use VPN´s/Keystores, Steamsales and co to buy cheap digitally. So when a console gamer pay 60 bucks for a game like witcher 3, a pc gamer will pay only like 10-30 bucks. Even if you substract sonys/microsofts licensing costs, a developer will still earn more money per sold console game as per sold pc game.

So why should PC gamers get a better experience as a console gamer if they buy less copies at all and also pay less per copy? PC gamers should be thankfull that they get mostly slightly better graphics at all. There is no justify for this at all. Scince they pay less for their software, it would be more fair if they get a inferior product.

If a game development have a Budget of 10 mil. Why should anybody  spend anything from this budget to make a graphical superior pc version? The money should be used to make a as good as possible experience on all plattforms which is similar on quality on all 3 plattforms. Because: For each graphical pc upgrade, you have to cut off ressources for the consoles versions. There is no infinite budget and anytime when you put ressources/money into something (pc graphics) anything else will suffer. That wouldnt be fair.

Your thoughts?

1. Have you even paying attention to the 8th gen so far? More and more PC support every single day, ESPECIALLY when you take into the fact that even pubishers like Sony and Microsoft have put some games that they could have had as exclusive but put them on PC. Just look at games like Street Fighter V, Fable Legends, etc.

2. You should check up on sales of Steam games, because a lot of them do very well there.

3. Can you name any specific exclusive PC Games? I honestly just can't think of any and it's usually up to the developer when developing a PC game whether they want to make it accessable to almost every PC out there or mostly high end PCs.

4. And what about the people that buy console games used? You're also not taking into account that when making a PC game it will usually be sold digitally so that means they won't have to go through the cost of shipping, retail boxes, etc. In fact it probably costs less to release something on PC than on console if you were to take that into account, but who knows.

@ the bolded: What kind of logic is this? PC players deserve to get an inferior product than consoles because they might buy it during a sale? I could easily turn this logic and say that PC gamers deserve a better product than consoles due to how much more they spend on better hardware than console players. Either way what kind of logic do you have there?

About the whole consoles holding back PC gaming thing. Think about most PC exclusives, do they look better than console games or multiplats? 95% don't. Look at the most popular games on PC, are they the really graphics heavy games that need extremely powerful rigs? Nope, 95% of the most popular games could easily work without any downgrade on any current gen console.

Excuse my saying it like this, but anyone that thinks that erasing consoles would mean developers would suddenly start optimizing their games for the top 5% uber powerful rigs is a moron.

More games = More Revenue.

If a studio is going to make a $50 million dollar game (out of their own money) And have to release it on PS4 XB1 PC or Wii U. They would not choose PC.

Don't sites like that require that someone else buy the game from a legitimate seller first, sort of like used games? Why else would they ever run out of stock?

A lot of times sites like that actually steal game codes.

CDkeys.com is as legit as they come, that is just wrong.  They buy the codes in the grey market, usually meant for poorer countries, but from legitimate channels.  A practice a lot of major supermarkets use to bring you goods at the lowest rate.  I've used them many times, and everyone I know uses them too, never heard of a problem ever.  If people would rather spend $60 dollars instead of $30 for batman with all DLC included, there is nothing I can say really.

Um.. No..   The gaming revenue I was referring to was SOFTWARE.. NOT HARDWARE..   There is no $2000 PC games..    So.. Not sure what you are talking about..   FACT IS..  PC game developers are making more MONEY on the whole.    Mainly because there is a LOT more option for gaming.. YES.. AAA games sell better on consoles.. because that is 90% of whats ONLY available on consoles(or worth buying).   and NOT all AAA multiplats sell better on console.. if the game has a good PC focus.. it sells just as well..

Again..  It is a FACT that the software PC market is now larger then PC and is continuing to RAPIDLY grow.. while console gaming revenue is down.. and will likely continue to decrease..

Because of free to play web games :)
Game dev/pub are making way more on consoles (with AAA) so it is irelevant in a way, esp. with the fact that the majority of those people paying for free to play web games have a very bad computer anyway
