If my country (Belgium) split, since the north would be governed by nationalistic right-wing a* holes.

Don't worry, we'll just take Flanders ;)

Well part of the reason I left is because my wife is from here. I can see your point about the pledge of alegiance but I was trying to prove my point that we change to suit outsiders which is sad in my opinion. Now that I live abroad it's easier to see things from a different point of view and feel differently about it.

Outsiders? Who do you mean?

Obviously, I'm no expert on America (I've never been), but I thought it was the insiders stirring up the waters. You know, SJWs, special interest groups, etc.

Not much really. Almost everything's pretty fine and dandy here in The Netherlands.

Only extremities of course, would make me leave, like large-scale war or if some extremist group would take power. Neither of which are exactly likely to happen. Then there's the off-chance I would meet someone from another country, and she wouldn't want to come here. Also not exactly likely to happen.

I'd say besides my own country, the only other places I'd potentially want to live instead are the Scandinavian countries, Switzerland, or Luxembourg. Maybe Australia, seems like a nice place, but I've never been there so I don't really know.

I need to visit your country and maybe Norway. The scenery and old architecture is amazing.

Well, as I say it: People might say Flanders has the money, but Walloonia has the guns ^^.

Anyway, we've been more or the less together since the 1500's, so splitting would be rediculous.

Better job opportunities elsewhere and relationship reasons would be good enough reasons for me to move.

I wouldn't mind leaving for a job oppurtunity if the place I was going was nice, but that's not really the same as a reason I'd leave the US and never look back.

I guess my best answer for that would be if education and scientific researching funding decreased to a laughable point proving that the country no longer values research and development. That to me is a clear sign that your government can't think ahead to benefits beyond their own term of office which I find pretty deplorable. So yeah, I think that'd be something that would make me write off the US

Old architecture we have plenty of. There's many cities and towns that look like time stood still and are exactly the same as they were threehundred years ago, with defensive works intact and everything.

We are however one of the 'newer' European regions because technology needed to develop far enough to really begin doing something useful with our type of land, so most of what you'll find was built in the 15th to 18th century when the low countries started to prosper. There's not that much from the early Middle Ages, unlike say Germany, the UK or France , and almost nothing from the classical era. The scenery at places can indeed be very beautiful, but one should not expect impressive nature, because there hardly is any. The beauty lies in the way the land has been organised and how every field, stream and dyke in it is made by human design. Which makes it quite unique. I'd say early June is one of the best times to visit the Netherlands, when a lot of fields are filled with colorful tulips.

As many mention... a job opportunity would do it for me. And that happened. I'm actually moving to the United Arab Emirates in less than two weeks. The benefits they are offering me are far more generous than any other job offer I received in the U.S. A lot of people say "degrees aren't worth shit!" I can't help but to disagree somewhat because honestly if it weren't for my degrees and licensures in integrated sciences that I worked my ass off at university for 5 years... I would have never been getting the opportunities I've been getting the last 3 years.

I'm so used to crossing oceans... it's nothing personal against any country. I just love my job and many countries value it by paying fairly.
