Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I really wish Microsoft invested into Phantom Dust or a new game rather than Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Scalebound, quantum break, recore?

recore indie game made Inufane (the guy who screw all backer with mighty number 9) no thx

scalebound again third party made by platinum (MS got nothing in there except like the rest paid big sum of $$$$ that all)

quantum break it made by Remedy Entertainment (who did max payne 1 , alan wake that a other game paid only by MS)

MS publish those game only just like tomb raider

Lol you don't know jack dude ReCore isn't an Indie game it's AAA and the IP is owned by MS same goes for Quantum Break and Scalebound, and also MS didn't MoneyHat these games QB and Scalebound where both pirched to MS by their respective studios the same way Gears of War was last gen that would be like saying Sony Moneyhatted The Order and Bloodborne.

I wish they would do the same but too bad they're not as artist and daring as Sony and Nintendo.

And since i brought the subject, i was obviously talking about IP's owned, the goal post was to talk about the variety of IP owned

Sunset Overdrive would have happened thanks to someone else, microsoft is not the only one with money.

Still doesnt take the fact that you answer me off topic since i was talking about investement in new games of their own. It's good to invest in a game that would have existed through an other publish anyway, but it's better to make your console more unique, because sony does both, lot of IP's owned by themselves + lot of games they help, it brings more exclusives .

And how many of those games do Sony keep up with? They toss them out not because they want more new ip games, its because their games usually don't sell well. So it really doesn't matter if Sony makes new ips and keep them when they won't use them in the future. Microsoft invest into some new ips that will never see a sequal.

You make totally no sense, it matters if you are a real gamer because it makes the library better with more games and more variety, an IP doesnt always need a sequel, especially a story telling one, TLOU would have been good without a sequel even if they make one

And some have sequels, and when they dont keep up they create new ones. ( for example gravity rush 2, an IP just created on Vita will have it's sequel on PS4 ).

Anyway, that doesnt change the facts i told you , and  it would have been better to get a real exclusive, new IP or even not, instead of this false exclusive , wasted money when Microsoft could create more IP or revive games ( Banjo?) and need it.

What I am saying is why bother owning an ip if you're not going to use it in the future?

Because you never know it you could use it or not, its not the kind of things you plan, and sony is not the kind afraid to make games that will not sell well, Yoshida said it many times, they like to make niche games like Puppeter and Gravity Rush.

And it makes your console unique knowing this IP will only be on your console.

Tomb Raider had nothing to do with not making another new IP or cancelling Phantom Dust.
Phantom Dust was on the road to crapville, and MS was wise enough to not waste any more money on it.

And TR was financed from the "moneyhat to delay other versions" fund, which is completely separate from "turn a promising studio working on a new IP into a Gears factory" fund.

I don't really get it: Ori, Quantum break, Scalebound, Recore.... The list is building really nicely with new IPs this Gen, and you are complaining about one game that still might be made? The TR deal is to make a splash in the holiday, just like how Sony bought exclusivity within the dlc for Destiny. These are business moves that sometimes turn out fine and sometime don't. But we will still get amazing new games like the ones mentioned above.

MS have no talent to make they own game period so they paid huge sum of $$$$ to get other game exclusive
(that show how they afraid of the competitor)

The problem is not talent! Their problem is,they just don't trust their "smaller" IPs as "profitable enough" franchises.

- Killer instinct was not released as a AAA $60 retail game, but as a "try pls see if you like it and then buy in pieces" 'cause they didn't trust the game would be a sucess as a 60$ game.

- Banjo kazooei nuts and bolts deviates completely from the platformer it was suposse to be because they didn't believe there was a market for it(they even joke with this in the fucking game)

- Instead of making a proper remake of conkers or a sequel, they just gave people some packs of assets on project sparks so people could literally make the game by themselves because, guess what, they don't believe there is a market big enough for this.

- Phatom dust reboot was an outsorced, really tight budget,single-playerless project that MS dropped the moment they saw they would have to actually put some money in the project, because AGAIN they don't belive it would reach whatever was their goal.

- And at last, phil hyped the shit up about a new proper rare game even by teasing people with battletoads t-shirt.Then,they announced a collection of old the games and a new MMO.What about battletoads teaser you may ask? it was a shovel knight dlc...

Sunset overdrive, Quantum break, Scale bound, Recore? They sure do seem to believe in a lot of their new IPs to make physical releases....

Exactly my thoughts ( and those of many if they are honest, most believed Banjo/Battleload/Conker would return, not just a collection of old games, most believed Microsoft would make a lot of new big IP's X1 exclusive before Black Tusk death to become Gears factory... )

They dont trust their big studios to make new games, Black Tusk was making 3 new AAA games but they just told them " ok it's better if you just forget all this work and just work on gears, safer " , same for 343i, when will wee see an other game than Halo from them ? Maybe they can make a RPG?TPS?...

It's said their studios are just " one game factory " ,  they have absolutely no trust in the potential of their owns studios to make new good IP it seems, only Lionhead can hope to do something else than Fable if the rumors are true.

In almost 20 years of console gaming with Sony in they have yet to produce any form of tingling in my pants with there pseudo originality.... Like I said it time and again before the only thing they did in my book is McDonalized the gaming industry.... There game quality ratio to game quantity is dismally poor and always has been... If I could choose my three console gaming company I'd pick ninty, MS, and Sega without even thinking half of once about it...

Now MS is not perfect and I do love PD but investing in a temp TR exclu was way smarter than doing PD especially if it was heading in a bad direction... We would have ended up with pissed of fans and lost any hope of making it a mainstream game... And it's not like MS will have less cash in the future... The Gen is pretty young still
