You should buy a Xbox One.
For sports games you have EA Access which gives you NBA Live 15, Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15 and EA Sports UFC. That's in addition to the other games you'll get like Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Titanfall, Need for Speed Rivals, Peggle 2, Battlefield 4, etc, so you basically have a great library starting off.
If you're looking for fighting games there's Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat X along with others that'll keep people happy. As well you could end up seeing many of the best fighting games from last gen (Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, King of Fighters XIII, Blazblue: Calamity Trigger, etc) being added to the backwards compatibility list.
Then there's Rare Replay with 30 old school games (Battletoads, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, etc) for just $30. Put that and EA Access together and you have one hell of a library starting off and that's not even including whatever pack-in game you happen to get or old 360 games that you have that get added to the backwards compatibility list.
If they're into racing games they'll be able to play exclusives like Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Horizon 2. Forza Horizon 2 was very well received and Forza Motorsport 6 will likely be one of the best reviewed racing games of this generation.
Add to that Games with Gold with Microsoft stepping up the offerings lately. Since they're becoming more and more competitive and continually trying to gain more momentum it's a safe bet you'll start seeing even more AAA games being offered with it.
As for Kinect you could always pick one up for the Xbox One and play Dance Central Spotlight and Kinect Sports Rivals.
I think the decision is a no brainer for anyone that wants to get a system to please a crowd.
