Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which Console and Games Should We Get For the Office?

Fighting games make great group play games because they're fun for the audience, too. I used to work in a place that had Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter arcade cabinets, people had a ton of fun with those. Well, and NBA Jam.

I even remember this awful experience at a party once where I could NOT beat this girl who was just button mashing with a long reach character in Soul Calibur ... god, I still hate her for that.

Honestly, it sounds like you want multi-plats, so I'm not sure it will much matter which console you go with. The opposite of what you have at home sounds like a good idea.

You're right, they're probably mostly multi-plats.  Althought Dance Central was popular and it was exclusive.

As for fighting games on next gen consoles, it's too bad SFV isn't out yet.   I guess there's Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat was always the most popular in groups because of the fatalities.  People love watching someone get owned with those.

Though I've never played it, Sportsfriends sounds great for that kind of setting.

If you're interested in getting SFV for the office, I'd suggest going PS4. Your experience won't differ much between the One and PS4 in terms of what you're aiming for, and SFV is the only noteworthy title I can think of that may separate the two.

I was originally going to suggest an Xbox One because Halo is a fantastic game to play in the brief moments you have off, but then I realized that Halo 5 doesn't have local multiplayer, which is a damn shame.

That said, if the Halo MCC has local co-op, I would still suggest it.

At risk of sounding like a complete fanboy: ROCKET LEAGUE!

Which means getting a PS4

Xbox One

It's more of an entertainment system whereas the Playstation 4 is more focused on gaming.

Fanboy.

Rocket League is a must though.

Which means getting a PC.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

You should buy a Xbox One.

For sports games you have EA Access which gives you NBA Live 15, Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15 and EA Sports UFC. That's in addition to the other games you'll get like Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Titanfall, Need for Speed Rivals, Peggle 2, Battlefield 4, etc, so you basically have a great library starting off.

If you're looking for fighting games there's Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat X along with others that'll keep people happy. As well you could end up seeing many of the best fighting games from last gen (Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, King of Fighters XIII, Blazblue: Calamity Trigger, etc) being added to the backwards compatibility list.

Then there's Rare Replay with 30 old school games (Battletoads, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, etc) for just $30. Put that and EA Access together and you have one hell of a library starting off and that's not even including whatever pack-in game you happen to get or old 360 games that you have that get added to the backwards compatibility list.

If they're into racing games they'll be able to play exclusives like Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Horizon 2. Forza Horizon 2 was very well received and Forza Motorsport 6 will likely be one of the best reviewed racing games of this generation.

Add to that Games with Gold with Microsoft stepping up the offerings lately. Since they're becoming more and more competitive and continually trying to gain more momentum it's a safe bet you'll start seeing even more AAA games being offered with it.

As for Kinect you could always pick one up for the Xbox One and play Dance Central Spotlight and Kinect Sports Rivals.

I think the decision is a no brainer for anyone that wants to get a system to please a crowd.

Not Wii U? :/ well thats a shame then *poofs away*

Definitely an X1 with EA Access like the other guy said. $30 a year gets you 12 free pickup and play AAA games with more coming plus Killer Instinct is awesome if you like fighters!
