Forums - Movies & TV - Is "Minions" the worst thing to ever happen to cinema?

The hate this movie is getting on this thread is ridiculous. My family and I had a blast with this movie and thought it was well worth the time and money. Who would blame illumination for massively marketing a decent movie in their biggest movie series.

and to those saying "the worst thing," please watch a recent Adam sander movie

No. There is still great family films like "Inside Out" this Summer.

Worst thing to happen to Cinema was the Production Code of Censorship that retarded film development in the US for years back in the 50s and into the 60s. Once it was gone we saw a boom in creativity in the 1970s.

I really need to watch that even though i'm not a huge fan of animated movies. It has a 98% on rotten tomatoes and a 94% on metacritic.

Pixar strikes a balance as best they can to entertain children, but also not insult them.  The difference to me is Pixar often has slow, quiet moments leaving you to feel and think as opposed to constantly stimulating you. Don't get me wrong, it is colorful and often silly, but really genuine emotions and I felt for the character as personal struggle was fully realized.  The moral of the film is more complex and thought provoking than other family films because it doesn't just make you feel good.  It presents an idea of what life is and the experiences that shape us.  If you liked Wall-E or Up it reminded me of them if that helps.

The worst thing that happened to movies is crappy superheroes in underwear yearly rehashes, see:
Batman, Spiderman, Superman, etc etc etc somethingman somethingman and othersomethingman.

Just terrible, really, what's even the point of those movies.
And now it's spreading to TV with things like Arrow (though Smallville came first).

Just grow up people, how many crappy Batman and Spiderman movies do you have to watch to get burned out?

On a gaming forum....yet telling people to grow up....funny stuff lol.

Not even almost. All the movies and merchandise are annoying, but they're leagues better than a lot of the stuff that comes out of Hollywood.

Apologies for going off topic, made my own to avoid doing so further

The worst thing to happen to cinema was Uwe Boll. Bar none.

Uwe Boll makes Ed Wood look like a cinematographic genius.

Second only to Uwe Boll as the worst thing to happen to movies, is the genre he worked in, video game-based movies.

Least with Ed Wood we got a great film about him and his life. No one wants or needs a Uwe Boll biographical film.

Definitely. No one wants to see the recreated moment when he films his reaction to his Kickstarter fail, blaming the people for it.
