Forums - Website Topics - VGC needs a better, dedicated mobile site.

I think it's clear to anyone who has been paying attention that VGC has been slowly trying to expand. I think it's great, and I truly believe that VGC can be a monolithic gaming site tied with the likes of sites like Eurogamer and Gametrailers. VGC's unique gimmick, it's sales info, can fill a valuable niche in gaming media that no other games media really covers in the same way.

That being said, before we get there, the site needs to get some of the basics down first. One is having a mobile friendly version of the site for when you're on the go. I'm not suggesting this as if it's an original or unique idea, either. I'm making this thread to emphasize and stress just how important it is to have this kind of presence. VGC has already started up a YouTube channel if I remember correctly, but if they want to get big, the site needs to make a concious and assertive effort to start streamlining its site. While a makeover to the front page is more important, this thread it to point out that a mobile presence is also important.

Again, the site's differentiating factor is its sales. That should be the primary focus of articles shown. The first thing people should see is the current hardware sales. Articles should be the next thing. The weekly sales, both HW and SW should be on the sides. While I love the forums, aesthetically, they are given much to much real estate and should be reduced drastically. Ideally, the mobile site would eliminate the need to zoom in and out, with everything formatted to be viewable vertically.

If anyone has any other thoughts or ideas, please share them here. Let's make VGC the best site it can be!

While mobile performance isn't great, I find most dedicated mobile sites are downright awful.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Yes please (using mobile now) hahah

Mobile performance is terrible. I don't see how anyone can use VGC on a mobile phone atm.

Yeah, VGC on mobile right now is horrendous.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I am happy for this thread to exist, but remember to put suggestions like this in the TruckStop thread as well.

There are mods better placed to delve into the details if they so choose - but I believe this is in the works. Broadly, we're going more for incremental change I think, rather than a huge delay followed by a big bang with a multitude of changes.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I think sales should continue to be in the center, because that's where your primary focus is... You wouldn't wanna push it out to the sides, would you.

I agree with you on the fact that VGC could become huge, but the problem is, VGC doesn't have any staff. IGN et. al. has staff. Like, people who actually work there. VGC doesn't (yet). That could both increase article output, quicken up updates like what is currently ongoing, and could help get a routine for sales.

I completely agree that this site desperately needs a better mobile site. With Tachikoma now helping, hopefully it's not too long before it's a reality.

When I read the title, I thought it said "VGC needs a barter". That's what happens when you play a lot of Fallout.

Going on topic, I totally agree with this. It needs to be done in a platform so every section of the site is easy to access. Also, the VGC Buddy needs to appear on mobile in some sort of way.
