Microsoft lost more money this quarter than Sony

Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft lost more money this quarter than Sony

Just to be clear a write off is not a loss.... Just sayin... Comparing Sony and MS on a financial level is quite irrelevant... MS is financially a Behemoth next to Sony...

But Bill Gates is still the second richest person on the world thou, so if anything happen to Microsoft then he will do something. While in other side of the world SONY and Japan is struggling with economy problem within their country. So SONY small gain is still cannot be compared to Microsoft loss because it will not affecting the whole idea of Video gaming Industry market.

What makes you think Bill gates is the 2nd reichest person in the WORLD???? Maybe in America...but the world...he is not even in the top 5 or 10 if I am not mistaken.

edit:

It seems I stand corrected...odd though the last time I checked his 80 billion was not at the top there were people with more. Looks like I will have to go find out what I was looking at.

Double Edit:

Okay so now I take it back looking at the Forbes list there are a lot of people/familes missing on that list like the Rothchild family...not a single memeber was on the list. And I thought that familys worth was over like 400 billion or something like that.

On Topic:

This thread just seems like it won't end well. MS is fine...that loss is nothing to them. But good for Sony.

seriously? is it that hard to read news? the predictions were for 56 cents EPS they posted 62, they were predicting 22.03 billion revenue, they hit 22.18. They exceeded expectations. There is always a market over reaction on a loss though even though the write off was announced well in advance. you should see the stock easily recover the 3.5% drop in the next day or two as investors look closer at the numbers which were amazing for a quarter prior to a major release (traditional drop off as buyers hold back).

there isnt a market overreaction, the stupid algos cant read, they just scan headlines and sell or buy.  the stock market is ruled by retarded robots.

Yep he's right, high frequency trading is most likley the cause for this, which I think we should have a sted tax to stop but hey let the guy with the server closest to the stock exchange cheat the market that much more.

Lost more money than Sony...why do you care?

They exceeded expected revenue. Use your brain to THINK what this means. You can do it! Stop comparing an ant to a giant.

First... it is a "write off" not a loss :)
And comparing Microsoft to Sony in any way on the financial stand point is literally comparing oranges and apples...

Guys I don't think anyone is arguing or debating MS and Sony financials. Some of you just want to state the obvious. We know there's no comparison between MS and Sony in financials. They're not even in the same league. MS is way beyond Sony's grasp in that aspect. To be frank, Sony will never catch MS if this was just about financials. EVER!

Agree with you.  Not sure how people could read the results and come to such innacurate conclusions as most have.  MS did not lose any $$$.  THey devlued an assett.  Simple as that.  3-4 years from now, they could do it again or value up parts of it in their reporting.  Nothing unusual about it.

It is near the end of the end....

People here are missing my point entirely lol

Apparently write-offs dont count if they're from MS but they do from Sony.

Btw the stock slid because of slowing cloud growth

Maybe MS should start a kickstarter at next years e3, read that someone on this sight lol
