Forums - Gaming Discussion - Digital VS Physical

Physical where possible. I've gotten rid of games in the past and regreted it; now I keep my games. In this regard, the ephemeral nature of digital titles doesn't sit well with me.

In a DRM world, I will always side with Physical as I like owning my games.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I'll probably continue to buy Physical until, Digital is the same price or cheaper, more HDD space, and used game industry ends.

I have found that with digital... I never really... I don't know. It's like, I have tons and tons of "free" games that Xbox and PS4 gave me. I have tons of Steam games that were $2.50 during Steam sales. I have all these digital files, stored or waiting to be downloaded... and I never play them. And these aren't shitty games either. I'm talking about some really good AAA stuff and some really good indie stuff.

For some reason, digital games are just... they don't appeal to me in the way having the physical, real copy does. I appreciate them more when they're physical.

Imo, digital again... has devauled gaming as a whole. Owning a game in 2015 is not nearly as big a deal as it was when I was a kid in the 80's. Back then, getting a game was an EVENT. You cherished it and played the damn thing inside and out until it was beaten.

Replies bolded. Trust i see your points but I still believe physical should always be an option :D

- There will probably never be a direct solution to reselling games, but much like downloaded music, digital gaming will get to a point where everyone just holds a collection of all the games they own. The culture will remove the percieved desire to need to sell games. Again, Steam has already achieved this. As for lending, that already exists. You can already share digital games with friends on XBO with family sharing.

- I'm all digital now. Things get price reductions and sales all the time. I'm 100% talking about consoles and handhelds. Though to be fair, I'm specifically talking about the Wii U and 3DS.

- ...Yes. That's the whole purpose behind that. That's like saying "do you really expect the your emails to be saved once you get a replacement laptop?" And again, you'd be saving the files to a harddrive, not just the cloud. And in a digital future, your digital purchases would just transfer over to the newer hardware. There would be no need to keep your XBO/PS4.

- No, there really aren't. Only a small minority buy collectors editions. I didn't even know about the Halo thing. Which game. Was it resolved?

- HDD space is already massive as it is while being affordable now. By the time there are 50GB games, 2TB HDDs will be dirt cheap and the norm.

- But we do know now that it's not an issue. Not a fair point to make.

Lastly, I'm sure there will be niche platforms for physical media once digital is in full swing, but by that I mean like the NX and PS Now will be all digital while maybe the NextBox will still have a disk drive as an option. But don't expect an ecosystem where every console gives the option. More realistically, you'll have to chose the console brand based off if it's all digital or only mostly digital.

Games are already 50GB (on consoles and some PC games)

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

this is obviously from the perspective of somebody who owns a ps4 or x1. none of this applies to wii u or 3DS owners

I fail to see how which console you own is at all relevant to this... Heck, Captain_Yuri (in the third post in this thread) is a Wii U and 3DS owner, and he said he likes buying digitally.

But it's not even remotely close to the norm yet.

I'm all digital and only have a Wii U and 3DS. I fail to see the relevance as well.

Physical, that way you stay in shape

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I buy everything without (decent) multiplayer physically and everything with (decent) multiplayer digitally. I love buying a game like Far Cry 4 the day it comes out at Best Buy for $48, beating it in 2 weeks, and then selling it on eBay for $45. That being said I did buy Bloodborne and The Last of Us Remastered physically because I will always want to go back to those games.

Since Nintendo removed paper manuals, physical copies have become less appealing. I'm still buying physical games, mostly out of nostalgia, but I can't see any benefit of having the physical copy over the digital download.
