Actually Nintendo is now making profit, last year they have $350m profit (they expecting similar profit for this year too), software is selling very well, but yes hardware sales of 3DS and Wii U are dropping and they need new hardware in 2016/2017.

Wii U hardware sales were up 20 percent from last year for the first quarter of the year, and 3DS sales were up 80 percent:

You probably referring to Nintendo NPD statement, true is that 20% YOY for combined Wii U and 3DS hardware, and we know that we have launch of New 3DS so Wii U alone numbers are down. Last June Wii U was sold 140k in US, this 70k.

I accidently copy and pasted the wrong link, lol. But yeah, I was referring to that. I wasn't aware June NPD numbers have been made available.

I don't recall they said that, but they certainly say Zelda for Wii U, but not only.

"Arrive Exclusively for the wiiU in 2015"

Granted they already broke one promise by delaying it but delays happen to almost every major 3d Zelda game but they did still say "Exclusively" which is the samething as "Only For"

Nintendo also said twilight princess was going exclusively for the GameCube for quite awhile and we all know how that ended.  I'm thinking the same scenario is going to happen with Zelda u.  They broke their promise with Twilight princess so I don't see why they're not going to do it again.

You are thinking that for no reason at all. Wii U doesn't even have a successor announced and even if it had and even with a 2016 release date, just because there was one case where zelda released on two consoles doesn't mean it would happen again. Also, remember that majora's mask wasn't delayed to become a launch title for the GC and Skyward Sword wasn't delayed to become a launch title for Wii U.

It not just june, july, august too...Mario Kart with Smash Bros. had very influence on sales on holiday season. With price cut at holiday season Wii U maybe could perform little better than last year, but I think it will somewhere on pair with last year.

With a pricecut it will perform much better than last year. without it it will still perform at least a little better. oh, how can you talk about unknown july/august sales? There shouldn't be much if any difference in those two months. Not to mention september and october that should be considerably up after Mario Maker.

I hope you are right.

Because last year we had promotion of free game with Mario Kart in june, july and august and that was very big push for people to buy Mario Kart bundle. Nintendo last year in 1Q (april, may and june) had shipment of 0.51m on Wii U consoles, this year will probably around 350-400k. Similar difference will probably be for Q2.

So you think Mario Maker will have better impact on sale in holiday season than Mario Kart and Smash Bros. together!? Like I wrote even with price cut of $50 in september-october i can't Wii U have significal YOY.

Mario maker will have impact starting september, I never said it would be  the only thing pushing sales. in case you didn't notice, mario kart and smash bros will still push consoles, and so will splatoon, xenoblade and star fox. that alone should guarantee better sales but a pricecut on top of that will increase the sales significantly.

As for the shipments of Q2, they should be really close to 2014's. Q3 may start slightly better for 2014 but september 2015 should put this year sales on top.

You forget that consoles are all about business and Wii U has failed completely. Zelda is quite big franchise (Nintendo has several bigger franchises though) but not enough to make Wii U a success. Remember, Mario Kart is several times bigger franchise and even that wasn't enough. The only way Nintendo could remain on consoles is to make new console soon and abandon Wii U. If they don't release NX soon, they would have to leave consoles completely. If there are no game or console sales, it is insane to continue making losses. It doesn't matter at all whether you like it or not.

Sure, they probably will release Zelda U on Wii U but it will probably ported to NX.

But that doesn't negate the increased sales for the first months of the year, and splatoon seems to have a better lasting impact than MK.

I'd have to say I'm average. No I don't believe you want Nintendo to go back to the Wii era, the era where it was shovelware for a few months, then one good title, then more shovelware. Because the last time I checked the 3DS is focused on hardcore and has solid 3rd party support and is sitting at around 50 mil.

Why do people remember the Wii as being full of shovelware?

Because it was lol. It was quite annoying. It was always the topic of conversation whenever I got into heated debates with people.

Sure, third parties made stupid games but Nintendo's first party offerings were excellent

True

and I liked the Wii line up way better than the Wii U lineup.

I prefer Mario Galaxy over anything. Other than that I like the Wii U's lineup

Same goes for 3DS vs DS. I'd take the next Wii Sports over the next Bayonetta or Xenoblade any day.

Well that's good. But I don't many would agree to have it that way.

@ OP You would enjoy the Wii U much more if you actually owned it.

Yes I agree. I very much agree. Though I do wish it had a larger internal harddrive, some of the same 3rd party offerings other consoles get, and a different name lol

It's clear to me that the OP has not been around gaming for long. If he had, he'd have known that the same 'critique' has been around since the days of N64.

So it's clear to you that I haven't been around gaming for too long even though I've been gaming since the snes days like I said? Hmmm...lol

1. No third party support
2. Sales

Have been the two main criticisms since late 90s. There is no other way around this: There is some truth to this,

There is a lot of truth to this...

but this is the path Nintendo has been taking for well over two decades now. So why are we still coming up with the same discussion topics? Wii had a couple of gems,

Huh?

but for the most part was a horrible console. Wii U is even worse.

Huh, how is the Wii U worse?

I miss that part, but you really dont pay big attention on what Reggie saying, he saying lots of stuffs and some of them are just PR talk or his personal opinion. Only words that had wait we're from Iwata and Miyamoto.

I still dont see why is that so bi deal even if Zelda U will be ported to NX, Wii U owners will still playet.

Now Now, lets not cherry pick our way out of this... Reggie knows as much as to what is going on in Nintendo as much as everyone else that work in there and its not like Miyamoto and others havn't said some facepalm worthy things in the past

And it is a big deal cause it goes back to why on earth did I buy a wiiU if the game can be played else where? Specially if the NX gets a better experience? I buy Nintendo consoles for at least 4 games that can't be played anywhere else including other Nintendo platforms (Within a reasonable timeframe that is):
1) 3d Mario 2) Mario Kart 3) Smash Bros 4) Zelda.

If I can play any of those games in any other platform, it significantly devalues my purchase.. Its not about just being able to play it, its about having the best experience possible only on the specific console. Heck if they do pull off a TP, then the wiiU version will be released 1 month later than the NX version cause the GC version was released 1 month later than the Wii version (In NA)

So the point is if I can just play it on the NX... Why did I spend $350 on the wiiU? And it makes me less confident in the company going forward cause then it would mean that they will only release key games (exclusively or not) only if the console has sold very well and I have no way of knowing which games are guaranteed to come when I purchase their console... Even if they publicly state it... Where as if they release it only on the wiiU and port it to NX a couple of years later, I will know that I will at least get big 4 exclusively on ______ Nintendo console regardless of sales

I really don't pay too attention of what Reggie saying, but i was very paying attention what were Iwata and Miyamoto saying.

Ok you buying Nintendo console at least 4 that games, you already have 3 of them and you will certainly have Zelda too, only Zelda probably will have port on next console too and you will have best experience on Wii U, TP GameCube version was better than Wii.

Wii U will be worst selling Nintendo console ever, so understand if one of most ambitious and biggest Nintendo game will be ported on next console espacialy after Wii U fail when they need very strong launch. But I would be furious if Wii U owners dont get new Zelda game at all, but that's not gonna be a case.

Of Course not, but Mario Kart made big difference last year. Splatoon have better impact only in Japan, Mario Kart had much stronger impact in US and Europe.
