Forums - Sony Discussion - Rocket League: A bigger get for the PS4 than we're giving it credit?

You forgot to mention Twitch, where it established itself as one of the top 10 regulars.

The thing that makes Rocket League a great e-sport is that it is a totally level playing field. Everyone has the same equipment and the same maneuvers. It's all pure player skill and nothing else. Pretty much all other e-sports there are elements which advantage or disadvantage a player to some degree independant of player skill.

It's a helluva fun game but I will never have the skill to really compete, So I will almost certainly just stick to the single player competition modes. Still a load of fun though. I will keep playing until I win a season on pro difficulty.

I bet that the meta already decided which car's hitbox is the most competitive.

SWEET TOOTH OP!!!

well, right now it's the multi-game channels who are keeping it high up in the rankings - the big ones like Lirik and Sodapoppin as well as the multiple medium sized ones will surely move on to the next game within a few weeks

the only "big" Rocket League only stream that I know off is camgears/kronovi who seems to get about 2-3k consistently (max was 17k last week, but I wonder if that is repeatable) - I would begin to call it an "established top 10 regular" once several RL only/main channels emerge that keep it up there way past the release weeks/month

That would take while. The biggest thing RL needs at the moment is a spectator mode, which doesn't have an eta.
Only then it can start growing some sturdier roots in the esports community and with that in Twitch. It also desperately needs new content for streamers to come back to it. The Utopia map at the end of the month should be a good start.

It's an awesome game. Needs to be picked up by e-sports.

well its definitely an awesome game, i've had a lot of fun with it so far

This is the perfect game for a slow month like July.

I was having a lot of fun with it myself (other than when I'm customizing my vehicle and the PS4's fans go into ultimate turbo take-off mode... have they patched that yet?), but...

A large part of the success of it is coming from being "free" for PS+ and also because there's not a whole lot else to play other than Arkham Knight at the moment... I'd say it's being given TOO much credit, because I can see it doing a LOT worse if it wasn't a free PS+ game...
