Forums - Sony Discussion - I'm going to buy a PSVita

Hello everyone,

At first, I was like most people thinking that the Vita wasn't a very good system, mostly because that's the way people talk about it.  After joining this site and seeing all the people here talking positively about it, I decided to do my own research on it, so I could make my own opinion on it.  After looking at stuff, I realized the PSVita actually looks pretty impressive. So, I decided I'm going to be buying a PSVita within the next week or so.   I'll be getting the Borderlands 2 bundle, mostly just because it comes with a memory card.  But I have a few questions for the Vita owners here before I go and get it.

Is the 8GB memory card enough for it?

From what I've read, it's not enough space, but I don't plan on buying much digital.  I prefer physical copies of games and I don't want to be paying for the overpriced memory cards.  I plan on buying pretty much every vita game physical, however, I never owned a PSP or a PS1 and I plan on purchasing quite a few of those titles.  So, Is the 8GB memory card enough if I'm only going to be buying PSP and PS1 games?

Is the Borderlands 2 port really as bad as people say it is?

I was just wondering because I've read a lot of negative feedback on the game and if it's really as bad as people say, I don't want it to be wasting space on the memory card and I'll just throw away the code.

Is the PSVita fragile enough where a case is required or strongly recommended?

I just don't want it breaking or getting damaged, so yeah.

Are there any peripherals or accessories that are strongly recommended for it?

Screen protector or anything else like that?

Is the Vita region locked?

I'll be buying one of amazon most likely and alot of the cheaper ones are shipping from Japan and I don't want to be buying one if it's in Japanese or anything.

Lastly, recommend me some games.

I already plan on getting Persona 4 Golden, Final Fantasy X/X-2, teraway, gravity rush, disgaea 3 and 4, and there are a few others that I'm kinda considering.  On the PSP, I plan on getting Persona 3 portable, final fantasy tactics, disgaea and final fantasy tactics.  On the PS1, I plan on getting just about every old final fantasy game and xenogears.  I really like rpg, strategy games, and platformers, so mostly recommend me games mostly in those genres, but I'm open to others as well.  In the future, I'm looking forward to World of final fantasy, dragon quest builders, and a few others.

Thank you Vita owners of VGChartz, you guys sold me a vita :]

Its a great system, great build quality it doesn't feet cheap at all, it isn't fragile either it can take a lot of punishement.

No 8gb is most definetly not enough I'd say get a t least a 32gb one, but 64gb is the way to go.

Borderlands is just a very lazy port, not bad per se, but not worth it.

8gb is alright. You can keep a few games but don't expect a fully packed library. Utilize physical if you can, that helps. Before I tragically sold mine I got a 32th but I even filled that up because I had too many games through ps plus. Just pick what you want to play and stick with it till you're done. Awesome system that suffered terrible circumstances and some non supportive decisions.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I recommend grips if you're going to be playing it at home. They make holding a Vita for long periods much more comfortable.

You'll probably want a bigger memory card. You might not think so now but Playstation has some excellent sales on games that are expensive in physical form or don't exist at all.

All the online hardware sales will be coming up in a few months. I picked up a memory card at like half price on Amazon.

I'll probably end up going with a 32 GB memory card, even though I want a 64 GB, but it's just so damn expensive. Why couldn't the vita just use sd cards?

I'm tempted to buy a Vita too but we only have the 8 gb and 16 gb memory card here in Sweden plus Square/Sony won't release Xenogears on the european PSN store. So I won't buy it...until they release Xenogears over here. :P

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

32 GB should be fine. I have found most big games are less than 4 GB, so that should go a long way.

add me, the more the merrier.

Good! It's great system. Try to go go for at least a 32gb memory card though.

8GB of memory? I only have an 8GB card and have some Vita, PSP, and PS1 games on PSN. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, and I should really use CMA to back up more of my games to PC between plays. It should be enough if you only really plan on PSP and PS1 though. You may have to periodically clear out some space, but honestly, I personally just haven't wanted to spend more on a memory card.

Region free? Yep. DLC is region locked (just region coding does this, really), but you can import physical games as much as you want and play them on your system.

Borderlands 2? It really isn't a lazy port. It's actually pretty impressive what they did with it. In the time I owned it, they managed to patch it up to be a pretty smooth experience. Ultimately, I did sell the game, as I wasn't patient enough to wait for a patch to fix an area in the latter half of the game that locked up every time you tried to access a shop. If you haven't played Borderlands 2 or want an on-the-go version though, I'd say it's a pretty solid port.

I personally haven't used a screen protector or a case. I might suggest a case just to avoid accidental dust scratches over time, but otherwise the system feels sturdy and I've never dropped it.

As was mentioned, the controller grip is a great peripheral for extended Vita play time. It is highly recommended if the Vita is found to be uncomfortable to hold for prolonged periods of time.

Games: Ys: Memories of Celceta, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, 2, and 3, Tales of Hearts R, and consider indies like Rogue Legacy and Terraria, as they are fantastic on the Vita. For PS1, FFIX. GET FFIX. Also get Symphony of the Night if you somehow haven't played it yet.
