Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If the NX doesn't come out in 2016, where will the "Nintendo-like" profits come from?

From games. By a major corporate shake up that achieves an entirely new company direction.

NX can coexist with Nintendo releasing on PC/PS4/Xbox. Mario Kart9 on those 3 and nx is a +30m seller.

They don't need to go multi-plat to sell 30 million+ copies of a game. Just ask Mario Kart Wii.

A fluke thats what you are putting Ninendos future on, not happening now or ever agian.  No nintendo hardware will ever pull such numbers to make 30m even wishfully possible.  They need to go multi to survive in the future.  Or have Disney buy them.

They just need to make a profit. Selling 30 million copies of Mario Kart is nice, but it's not a requirement to do business.

Not yet but given how gave development costs are going, who knows we may see a time of sale 10m or go bust times.

It be easy making a profit if they were selling on the combined yser bases of PS PC Xbox, thats what.. 200m or a billion potential custumers?

If you can't make a profit off a game by selling 10 million copies of it, then 95% of the industry is doomed regardless.

Hope you like smartphone games in that case.

There's like only 3-4 games in the entire industry that sell above 30 million, even on multiplat.

They're gonna expand Amiibo production and re-release all Amiibo wave 1 and 2 figures. Amiibos will be in every toy store in America.

Currently, Nintendo are selling about 5 million per Quarter of these toys. Skylanders is the top dog and sells 10-15 million per quarter.

If Nintendo can even approach those numbers, they'll be in a healthy financial state come the fiscal report for this year.

Theres a reason they limited productuion, it maintains demend.  If they flood the market they will benefit short term but will also end up destroying it.

Also toys fade from popularity, pittign their future on toy sales is a quest to failure.

Your stance is ludicrous. The Wii is certainly not a fluke. The fact that you say that leads me to believe you haven't a clue what fluke actually means.

And what Soundwave said is true. Profitability is key for Nintendo and they can easily profit on their own consoles. They've always done so, except for this generation. Also, to your comment about 10 million sales, Nintendo's games often climb to those limits, especially on handhelds.

But they are profiting of this generation, they stopped having losses, I believe it was the 2nd year of the Wii U when they actually start to profit from it.

Even if the NX comes out in 2016, R&D for the platform will be costly.

The games schedule for 2016 is somewhat sparse for Nintendo platforms, as it seems the only real heavy hitter will be Zelda, at least from the games announced so far. An open world Zelda will also be extraordinarily costly for development and simply doesn't sell that phenomenally well.

I think there will be two things that will allow Nintendo to receive extraordinary profit margins:
1. They will stop the artificial scarcity of Amiibos and begin to produce them in full capacity. Since it won't be immediately known that Nintendo has increased their production, there will be a period of time when the audience thinks that Amiibos are scarce when they aren't. This will cause a temporary influx of money.
2. 7th generation Pokémon are released in late 2016 as a swan song for the 3DS, much like Pokémon Black and White.

You're correct, but I'm just talking in general; this is the first generation they've lost money at all.
