Makes sense Iv'e not had a Optical Drive in my computer since 2011 and never felt the need to have it since.

You don't even play off discs, they all get installed on the consoles.
So basically this gen is already close to "digital only" and I guess next-gen consoles won't feature an ODD if streaming services for video evolve even more than they do now.

There is still a company that doesn't require you to install the game on the system before playing.  There might be a patch and save data but that is it.  I'm sure Microsoft will try to pull similar maneuvers next generation when it comes to owning the game and being able to sell or lend to a friend.

I assume you mean Nintendo, and while you're right, that has more to do with the WiiU itself than anything. If Nintendo's next console is within or above the realms of the PS4 and X1, mandatory installs are something we're likely to start seeing from them (they're already giving the option for stuff like XCX). As games get bigger and more complex, you reach a point where running them directly off the disks simply isn't practical.

I know that there is still the 360 but current gen consoles rely on installation because the odd is too slow to move the massive amount of data so I understand Sony and MS went that way.

I was talking about the Wii U.  Didn't the 360 have some mandatory installs also?

I burned a CD yesterday. It was great.

@ OP

Last game I bought on disc was The Orange Box.

Actually, it was Diablo III: Reaper of Souls...but I got the CE, so yeah...I only buy the retail copy of the game if I get the CE. But the Orange Box was the last game I bought that wasn't a Collector's Edition. Since then I've bought StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm CEs, Diablo III and Reaper of Souls CEs, and the upcoming Legacy of the Void CE.

I know Yes, 360 had some later in its life but I think it wasn't more than 10 games in total (so close to none considering all the games).

Point still stands, ODDs are bad.
