So you are defending the terrorist that killed these four men? They did not have a gun because they were following the law, the terrorist was not.  Do you see how stupid your point is?  It is not black and white like you think it is.  You cannot just make every gun disappear.  The US is the most hated country in the world.  Shit like this will continue to happen.

And this is why we should focus on the problems in society that lead to shooting in the first place rather than just giving everyone a gun of their own. I remember all these pro-gun arguments after the shooting in the theatre in Aurora, many claimed that if the "good guys" had been armed, the situation would look a lot different and someone could have taken him out.

Meanwhile, I kept thinking that:

A: Why even have a discussion about bringing a firearm to the movies, the fact that it is even a topic for discussion shows how huge the problems are. The same goes for schools, is it really better to arm the teachers than to try to sort out the troubles that lead to shootings? Maybe just at least try to take a gander at these issues?

B: If a person goes into a packed movie theatre and throws smoke grenades and starts shooting, no one knows how many attackers there are and several are carrying firearms; this would surely result in utter chaos and a lot more dead people.

The problem is that these issues that lead to shootings would force people to come to terms with things that would affect them personally and challenge the very lifestyle of the middle and upper class in society, which is a thought they really don't like. Ironically, a lot of the most ardent supporters for gun ownership belong to a group that is at the bottom rung of the ladder and they can't even see that they're struggling within a structure which causes all these issues to begin with; they're basically petting the dog that keeps biting them.

Thank you to everyone who's treating this topic (and each other) with respect.

Please maintain that spirit of respect and tolerance. And please avoid any name-calling.

Going to japan ! 0 per 100'000, i would never trusted if someone would have tell me this !

Anyway i don't care about US i don't live there, so they can shoot all they want at will..... earth is overpopulated, we need more dead a way or a other (yeah i am cynical), i never seen a single guy/girl with a gun in switzerland, and never seen any problem because of this.

Sure there is alway one or 2 bad guy..... but i find 0,23 dead per 100'000 lot better than 3,55 !

America should take a good look at countries where this sort of thing doesn't happen so often. It's really sad that the most powerful country in the world cannot even muster the political will to have a serious, rational discussion about this sort of thing while there are many countries whose firearms regulations and legislation show precisely how to do it.

Hate to break the news to you, but here in reality, the only thing that can prevent a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Reaction times prevent the good guy with the gun from preventing the bad guy with the gun before they are dead. You'd realistically need 2 good guys or someone else to fall first for the pro gun argument to work.

It's called mutually assured destruction. The majority of criminals aren't suicidal. They simply want to commit their crime, gain what they can, and disappear. Knowing that at any moment someone else could pull a gun on them dampers their will to commit the crime in the first place. It's why places with the least restcitive gun laws end up having the least gun related crimes. If people are so set banning guns because people can use them to kill other people, then you might as well ban the other million and one items people can use to kill other people.

Gun crime is worse in the UK than the US?
