I think we need to see if Sony is even going to release another handheld, and if so, what form it will take, before making any decisions here..

They're making killing on Nintendo handheld. I don't see that changing next generation

It's up to the creator of the game. I read somewhere that he had some kind of beef with Sony so he chose Nintendo. That may change in the future or it may not.

I only own a 3DS so I would like it stay where it's at, 'cause I may someday want to invest in the franchise.

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

Given the poor sales on consoles (besides Wii), I'd say sticking with Nintendo handhelds is a nobrainer.

and they were making a killing (more so) on the PSP but still changed before the Vita even released.

I think Sony wont make another handheld so they will stay with Nintendo. But I think they will want to branch out into consoles and see that as viable for outside of Japan, so I imagine they will give the PS4 that. If that MH is a classic MH title (and therefore is not going to push teh PS4 to the limit) I imagine it would include a vita release as well.

Capcom will go whereever they see the money.

I hardly think they will move from Nintendo. All evidence suggest they are very happy where they are.

1. Capcom has up the ante with monster hunter milking with 3 titles for Monster Hunter X, Monster hunter stories and monster hundter diaries. Clearly they found a warm home for the series

2. NIntendo has been willing to push the monster hunter series in the west on behalf of Capcom. Case in point, Monster Hunter 4 ultimate is the best selling monster hunter in the west.

Capcom will go where ever the see the money and it is very apparant it is with Nintendo.

My bigger question is with Capcom still not in the best state as a business, will Nintendo pursue securing a controlling stake in the franchise? I would not be the least bit surprised if Nintendo did in the same way they did with Fatal Frame. Secure the exclusivity, gain control over where the next game goes.

So you are telling me that the various MH spin-offs didnt exist on PSP either?

Of course they will go where the money is: it was with PSP, then they moved to 3DS. Nintendo willing to push teh series for them has obviously been beneficial. But Capcom doesnt need to give up good money for Nintendo to do that anymore. They can push MH themselves in the West in the future.

We have no idea what the future holds for Nintendo in terms of handhelds. But continuing market shrinking is most likely on the cards and unless they can turn that around in the West, when Capcom will most likely want to expand there, plays a pretty significant role in what Capcom does.

I am sure Capcom will stick with Nintendo handheld, but I think you are missing the bigger picture if you think they wont bring the titles to the PS4 in some form of another. They have larger market potential on PS4 than they do on the 3DS or successor in the West.

No it doesn't and you have no logical argument to support that claim

1. Monster hunter is a handheld franchise. Attempts to make it work at home console have been met with moderate results. It's abundantly clear that the consumers of the MH franchse, game on handheld. The franchise sales prove my claim and you have no evidence suggest otherwise. Any future titles will be tailored for this market first and foremost.

2. Secondly, Monster hunter is very much a game for the japanese. It's logical from a business point of view that they will  go for the more popular market in Japan, that is handheld. Why would capcom make their most popular series for a dwindling home console market? West is a minor market; for the monster hunter series the japanese will alway come first.

3. Why would capcom move away from a partner that is willing to pay for distribution and advertisement?

It`ll likely go to the most successful console, but it`s hard to say. I heard they liked the Wii and 3DS features, so they went with those consoles.
