Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Blu-Ray Nintendo Wii sighted in Tokyo

well they already are paying the DVD Forum for royalties to use DVD technology so I guess the switch wouldn't be out of the question. Royalties are royalties.

Yeah but I don't think it will happen this generation.

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

Yes but is there any grains of truth in it? Blue-ray next gen?

bluray in 480p...NICE!!

This is complete BS, Nintendo games dont need bluray, N intendo consoles have never played movies, nintendo wii isnt even HD, a Wii with these addons would mean Wii being at a similar price with the 360 or Ps3.

lol BS

Just BS to me, DVD is the first step for the Wii

I fail my own thread the point was to see what everyone thought about blu-ray and wii's future. More specifically next Gen. I have clearly failed.

@ssj12
Nintendo does not pay the dvda, they would only have to do that if there console starts playing dvd movies.

Advance Wars - Days of Ruin

Obviously complete and total BS.

The only reason Nintendo would delve into a new disc format ability would be to upgrade their system's disc capacity.

Given how far into the generation we are and how many Wii systems are out there, Nintendo wouldn't be developing such a drastically upgraded system.

Additionally, if they wanted to upgrade the system's abilities, they'd go with a different standard. The SNES-CD didn't use CDs; it used SuperDiscs (which were modified and are now known as the PS1's black discs). The GCN didn't use DVDs; it used GCN Game Discs. And the Wii uses the Wii Optical Disc. All are based off the tech of their respective standard, but all are not that standard, nonetheless. They have different firmware.

As they have different firmware, they are not CD/DVD tech, specifically. The only difference between HD-DVD and BR is... you guessed it, their firmware. Both are the same laser tech. Naturally, if Nintendo was going to use something better than DVD for their system, they'd do blue laser tech. It'd certainly be based off of blu-ray, but given who makes blu-ray, it most certainly wouldn't be. Instead, it'd have a different firmware, and it wouldn't include royalties due to Sony.

Yeah but i can imagine Sony and the BDA charging a hell of a lot to use the technology outwith the BDA... I don't see why ninty would want to change the Wii considering how well it is selling!

Doubt it.  Nintendo has a history now of using non-standard formats of the time period and the BDA could only profit by Nintendo's collaboration.
