This answer is really stupid.  In that case, humans are the answer for everything that was created and sought after.  By that logic, the big bang was the greastest force in gaming history.  Let's get off our own back patting and get down to who and what really mattered.  Miyamoto is a good start, Nintendo in general is a solid basis to stand on.  Let's not forget Sega and their contributions in starting the console war, a war that is still raging today.  Sony pushed for a more serious and scenematic style of game design.  Microsoft began the online craze.

Really, us gamers.  The whiniest and most fickle group of jerk offs in the world have done more for gaming than anything else?  What rubbish.  Dopamine, bitches.

Thats a hard question to answer on so many levels. All of the big boys have done stuff for gaming in a good or bad way. I could say son for bringing in the mature crowed but sega kinda did that too. Nintendo made gaming glorious again. Xbox made made casuals into hardcores with fps. It's semi personal but I'm going with ps1.

Actually, you're wrong. The human race as a whole didn't do much for gaming. It's a segment of the human race, the gamers who has made the business flourish. As for being whiny, I think you're projecting there. In any case, thank you gamers for making this hobby of mine so enjoyable.

Actually, I'm spot on.  In fact, I'm agreeing with you.  To count the human race as a whole to be the grandest prevailer of gaming is just nonsense.  That's like saying humans are the cause of war when really it's governments and national attitute that brings us to war.  It's just dumb not to disect and pin-point a specific cause and just brand it: Human caused.

And as for gamers not being whiney, I'm talking about as a whole.  This is true because consumers, not just gamers, are whiney.  Think about movies, food, music, TV, whatever.  We're a what have you done lately culture, we're always wanting something new, always criticizing, always wanting more.  That's just how most humans are.  Therefore, as a whole, gamers and consumers in general are whiney.  This site and the circle of its members may not be whiney because some of us pride ourselves in accepting the way things are, but in the whole, gamers are.  Hell, even defending and countering post after post points towards being whiney.

The arcade.... they brought us together to find the games we liked and we kept going back. There we had an experience we couldn't get at home. Eventually, consoles and online gameplay made things convenient for gamers. I, for one, would like to see arcades come back in some fashion. e.g. Barcade
