I was expecting a $40 or $50 physical release, instead it's $70 and doesn't even have split screen. It might be fun but not worth hearing my kids fight over who gets to play. Pass.

Teach them the valuable lesson of sharing.

We already have plenty of other stuff to teach them that. Know when to pick your battles, plus teaching them to play together nicely is more important imo. Always fun, huge Minecraft worlds and they're always right on top of eachother in the way. They're slowly learning to work together though, it's interesting to watch. Splatoon would have been fun for them, yet PvZ GW is still a hit. Except when they're fighting over kill stealing lol.
Nintendo dropped the ball by not including splitscreen.

Well there's always offline 1 vs 1 if you don't mind getting another controller. But yeah, nothing for online since it wouldn't work with how the game is designed.

Just tell your kids it is bed time and play the game yourself.

I never thought it would "flop" per se, but I thought that it's lifetime sales would be around 1 million. I'm pleasantly surprised that it accomplished that in under a month.

I never thought it would be a flop, but it's certainly exceeded my initial expectations. The staggered content stuff has somewhat soured my view of the game though, so regardless of other's opinion on the topic, i find it quite hard to offer much in the way of congratulations for those sales :p

This.

Well on second thought, I did think it would flop

Better yet how about someone explains to me why the game did so well. My guess is Wii U owners were desperate for a new game. I mean if the third parties leave then what's left?

Reason: The game is fun

Also actual marketing

I haven't seen any marketing - where?  (Serious question).

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

They made quite a few commercials (the good ones are in Japan though). Walmart/Target had some sort of display. I'm sure Japanese stores did too. Wii Us in store also feature a single player Splatoon demo. They did collaborations like with the author of Ika Musume or with yogurty's. Japan came out with a one chapter comic. There was also billboards like http://gonintendo.com/stories/234243-splatoon-billboard-adverts-pop-up-in-paris-subways . I'm also sure the Global Testfire convinced a lot of people.

all i know is if it was a $20 eshop title i would not buy it. Physical only for me.

I doubt people are going to apologize, but I always kinda knew it was going to sell well. The reactions towards the game were way more positive than negative and Nintendo really upped their advertisement for the game. It's going to carry on selling in my opinion as well.

Buy a Wii U for Splatoon alone?

If you're only into shooters - then YES .

But beware - once you're under Nintendos magic spell you might end up with many many more great exclusive titles only found on Wii U...
