Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo of America has dropped Plans For US Release of Devil's Third

Why did Nintendo get behind this in the first place? Anyway I can't blame them for not wanting their name attached to a piece of shit which they didn't actually make. They've got a reputation behind them. If the European localisation then a NA release should be cheap, hopefully Namco or someone can secure a digital release.

NoJ had probably faith in it at first and fund it but they probably didn't like what they saw or play and decided to make it retail exclusive to amazon in Japan and and NoA just decided to outright skip it and focus on the other games releasing this year that all will likely sale more then Devil's Third.

(not sure what NoE plans are aside from releasing but i get the feeling that they will pull a NoJ)

Well we'll know in six days if the quality reasoning and this video are true. If the game is in as poor a condition as this video suggests, it should wind up critically panned and poorly received by users.

Funny thing is this thread already shows that Nintendo is in a no win situation if the quality problems are true. If they do publish this and it's garbage, Nintendo will catch flack for pushing a garbage game. If they don't publish it, they catch flack for holding back a game. Me? If it's garbage it shouldn't be published *anywhere*. When your library is small, quality ratio is all you got.

That's what I meant. Nintendo of America is still giving us Yoshi, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Star Fox Zero, Fatal Frame, Amiibo Crossing and Mario Tennis this year, and SMTxFE early next year and Zelda later on in 2016.

So yeah, I'd say they're interested, just slacking.

That's not the argument I was making.  NoA are releasing games developed by NoJ; SCEJ aren't developing for Vita so SCEA have nothing to release.  Neither are releasing titles for their systems that are developed in their own territories (actually, Vita kinda has one up on Wii U since Resident Evil Reveltaions 2 was a SCEA initiative).

I suppose the situations are largely different because SCEA have a number of development studios while NoA have Retro (but don't they often work in partnership with developers like Monster Games & Next Level Games who haven't touched the Wii U yet?)

Saying all this, I feel we may be swinging things wayyy off topic based on a largely throwaway comment by me :P

They also had the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game marked with the e-shop orange borders, so maybe it's just placeholder until they reveal the box art and release date.

That gives me some hope. There's absolutely no way a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game will be digital only, especially when the last one sold 400k in NA alone (almost on par with Japan), especially with there being no mainline Pokemon game this year.

Anti West Nintendo, will never change.

Can Nintendo really be turning down games at this point.

How many retail releases do they even have this year?

Nintendo: Kirby, Mario Party, Splatoon, Yoshi's Wooly World, Mario Maker, Star Fox Zero, Xenoblade, Fatal Frame, Animal Crossing Amiibo Party

That's 9.

Third Parties: LEGO Jurassic Park, LEGO Dimensions, Snoopy, Guitar Hero, Just Dance 2016

I get what you're saying now, sorry for misunderstanding.

And yes, we are very off topic.

Rofl.  That's hilariously awful.

That aside, I'm sure quality isn't the reason.  Wonder what the real reason is.

On paper, Devil's Third has very promising concepts. I see it basically as the spiritual successor to Ninja Gaiden, except with gunplay added in. Even if it isn't the best-looking game of 2015, from what I've seen it graphically looks better than Ninja Gaiden 2 (the last game Itagaki made).

NOA must be puzzled on how to really market a game like this. I for one always thought they should have embraced the cheesy, grindhouse Jean Claude Van Damme nature the title seems to have. A sort of Duke Nukem type of thing. I think that went over their heads a long time ago.

Not to sound harsh, but I'd imagine perhaps someone at NOA would have rather found a western dev to launch a new mature online shooter/hack-n-slash.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I got to behonest the gameplay and graphic look like ashy.
