Forums - Gaming Discussion - When will Microsoft leave the console business?

I always hear people asking when will Nintendo leave the home console business. But that really doesnt make sense to me considering the fact they are doing better than Microsoft. Since the original xbox microsoft has sold around 122 million consoles and since that same time Nintendo has sold around 133 million and I believe their consoles sell for more of a profit so why would Nintendo get out and not microsoft? Doesn't really make any sense.

This one those topics is trolling and shows you can try to use statistics to make any point you want.

Consoles sold is on not valid argument for one company doing better then other...for this type argument or point it would be financial information you would want to provide.

Xbox has lost billions, shareholders have always asked for it to be dropped. But then again the Xbox is part of another division and not by itself, but does not change the fact it bleeds money.

Its a good question. I am honestly surprised they havent quit yet. Not sure what their plan is going forward, but it seems to be windows 10 on multiple systems. Perhaps they will go back to beeing that PC developer, but in a multi-device platform. Some have said here that the Xbox will be that device for the living room, but given they sell it at a loss... why even continue that? I am unsure they will be around for another console round if the multi-device thing works.

Actually, maybe this windows can go into the next Sony and/or Nintendo systems. It sure sounds like there is more to win for them with that model.

It would be better but why would Sony and Nintendo agree to that?

Third party support.

Microsoft will be forced to leave once they buy Nintendo and then go bankrupt.

Microsoft will not be leaving the gaming scene anytime soon. If anyone is going to leave, it will be Sony due to their financial strains over the past few years, but Sony won't be leaving either. I don't understand why anyone would want Microsoft to leave after all of the great things they have brought to the gaming industry.

They will buy Nintendo before they leave

Hell why don't they just buy steam and re-brand it Xbox? Best of both :)

Worst of both, don't you mean?

Microsoft stopping with consoles =/= Microsoft leaving the gaming industry, fyi.
