Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (duo in charge of The LEGO movie, Clone High, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street) with a screenplay by The Empire Strikes Back and The Force Awakens (co-writer) Lawrence Kasdan, this anthology film will be about young Han Solo and his adventures.

Story synopsis:

The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.

Lord and Miller had this to say:

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

Phil Lord and Chris Miller is a suuuuper weird choice in my opinion. I'm really interested to see how it turns out, though. It's going to be funny, we can assume that much.

Oh God. Is Disney going to turn Star Wars into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

I just want a well-made standalone movie. I don't need all this world building and all these spin-offs.

I'm expecting to see the rumored Han Solo game, that's being done by visceral games to also ship in 2018 now :(

Not a fan. Disney is going to milk this thing into infinity. Star Wars is not like the Marvel Universe and even the Marvel Universe is going to eventually show fatigue from all the movies they're releasing.

I don't need to know nor do I care how every freaking character (even ones I like) "came to be". I don't care how Han Solo became a smuggler. I don't need to know that his mommy abandoned him or something. 

I know its milking but I don't care I am so excited!

When it comes to things like this I am always in the "as long as I like how they do it it's ok" bandwagon.
